Do u have pregnancy brain?

Yesterday, I forgot my purse and didn't notice until I was at work (45 mins from home).  After work, I changed into my yoga clothes and took off my diamond necklace (a 30th bday gift from my H) and zipped it into my lunch bag.  Yes, I remembered yoga clothes and my lunch, but not my purse.

New day, I remembered my purse and my lunch bag today, but an hour ago, I went to my lunchbag in the fridge at work and notice the zipper pocket open.  No necklace.  I freaked out, started to cry, told a good friend/coworker that "I think someone stole my necklace" and then called my H crying and frantic.  He said, "I bet it's just pregnancy brain, honey...I will go home and check it's there..."

Sure enough, I must have taken it out and put it in my jewelry box this morning (which explains the open zipper, etc), but I have NO recollection of doing this.

Why would my brain assume that someone was randomly searching lunchbags for diamonds?  Why wouldn't I just assume I forgot doing it?  It's b/c it's SO UNLIKE ME to forget something like that.  I am known to have the sharpest memory.

This baby is taking over my brain!!!  I feel like a mush-head.

Anyone else have crazy pregnancy brain stories to share?  Gosh, I'm so glad that I found that necklace, but pretty worried about what that says about me (and my faith in my co-workers, eep!!).

  • Pregnancy brain has taken over here as well..

I frequently am at a loss for words when talking.. like I just forget a word or two.. lol! DH finds it hilarious..

I am also super forgetful.. which is unlike me.. thank goodness for the calendar reminders on my phone or else I would be completely lost!

  • I had it before I was even pregnant. I am naturally scatterbrained, but it has gotten worse and DH thinks its comical. My boss, however, is not amused.

  • Yes, and it's embarassing.  When I'm in meetings I lose my train of thought mid-sentence and I can't remember what I was going to say.  This is so not like me.
  • Mine was a lot worse during the first few weeks.  I really try to be more aware and plan ahead or make lists for things.  I made some pretty bad mistakes at work when I was pg last time, but luckily, it's not as bad now.  I hate having to apologize for messing up!

  • I hate to tell you, but it doesn't really get better.  It went from pregnancy brain, to baby brain, to mommy brain for me.  So, I can't really blame this pregnancy...it never went away from my first!

    Ditto.

  • I forget EVERYTHING it seems. Not as bad as a girl in one of my classes though. She's due in June and told me she started to get out of a moving vehicle the other day. She's like, "I opened the door and started to get out but my foot kept slipping out underneath me. Then I realized the car was still moving!" YIKES!

  • Oh my gosh, its terrible.  Like you, my memory and attention to detail have always been quite sharp, but this pregnancy/baby/hormones have destroyed it.

Everyday I find myself doing something so off-the wall and frankly I cant even remember what I do. I should have DH write all my misadventures down for laughs later on.

I do know that DH has to keep vigilance over the milk and cereal.  Apparently I put the cereal box in the refrigerator and the milk in the pantry all.the.time.

This.  My brain has never been the same, and now this baby is eating what is left of it.

I was just having this conversation with a friend who just had her second baby.  She said that a woman's brain actually shrinks during pregnancy.  I can't remember the actual percentage but it's almost half of the amount of brain shrinkage an alzheimers patient would have! Now I can't prove this medically but it's certainly worth some googling!!! LOL I forget complete conversations that i have had with people and I stumble over my words all of the time.

Pregnancy Brain ? What Causes It

As usual in pregnancy, it's just your pregnancy hormones having some fun, this time at the expense of your memory. And believe it or not, your brain-cell volume actually decreases during the third trimester of pregnancy (which could explain why you can't remember what you just read about in that last paragraph). Not to worry, your brain will plump back up a few months after delivery.

  • Today, I couldn't figure out why the keys wouldn't come out of my ignition. This is because I forgot to put the car in park before I turned it off. I've tried to open my car door with the apartment key, and vice versa. I forgot my MIL's name while talking to her. I also have been doing what my mom did... "Tony... Bryan... Paige... Soldier (the dog)... darn it, YOU. Get over here."

I feel like the world's biggest dork, and I'm SO glad I'm not alone in this. I'm pretty sure at each Dr's visit I'm just collecting brain cells every time I pee in that stupid cup.

  • Lol...I thought I was alone!! I feel so dumb sometimes...I'd be saying something and then totally forget what it was; or sometimes trying to find the simpliest word to convey a point is such a hassle!
