Trying to Get Pregnant

I don't understand...

Ugh,  OPK question again...

Yesterday morning I had a negative Wondfo OPK, Positive Answer OPK, and negative CBE digital.  I took your suggestions and tested again in the afternoon with just the CBE and it was positive (Also had EWCM in the afternoon).  Even though I probably should have just let it be, I tested again around 10pm and got a negative.  This morning and afternoon were negatives as well.  Has this happened to anyone else? The day before yesterday were all negatives as well (I tested in the morning and afternoon).  I'm wondering if my real LH surge is yet to come, or maybe that was it...  Now I wish I would have done my temps starting earlier than yesterday and maybe that would tell me more.   Just in case, we're going to BD tonight and I'm going to continue to test and temp.

Re: I don't understand...

  • If you got a + in the morning and afternoon both then you probably did surge yesterday.  So, you'll *probably* O today. I would continue using OPKs.  Keep having sex until you get a temp spike for a few consecutive days.

ETA:  I have had just 1 + OPK in a cycle before and it was correct. The fact that you got 2 would make me more confident that it was, in fact, your surge.

Once you got the positive, you didn't need to retest later. Especially if it was digital test, no guessing line colors, etc. Most don't see two positives unless they happen to catch LH rise on up and then down. You are probably ovulating today

  • If you got a CBE positive, I would say you are ovulating. Also, I would step away from the pee sticks! You are going to drive yourself crazy with all that testing!

ETA: I do test the next day after a positive to make sure its negative, these posters are right. Sometimes people get days of positive OPKs.

  • Some people have very short surges, that's why it is suggested to test twice a day. If you don't see a temp rise in the next 36 hours I would keep up with testing since sometimes you can have a surge and not ovulate.

Once again, I disagree. Vpine- Where are you getting this information and WHY do you keep giving people this bad advice?  Please STOP!

OP - There are MANY ladies on this board who get more than 1 +.  Some people get 2, 3, 4 days worth of positives. You O after your surge ends so it's best to have an idea of when that is.  If you stop testing after you get 1 + and you're one of those people, you may assume you'll O the next day then miss it if you don't actually O for another 2-3 days.

I agree.  I got a + CBE opk on Tues, all negative tests on Wed, a neg test on Thurs am and 2 positive tests both last night and this am.  I am expecting that I will ovulate today and have a temp rise tomorrow am.  If I had not continued to test I would have been completely confused.  In my opinion, it's best to continue to test and BD until your temp rises.

  • Thanks for all the great advice!  I'll be sure to continue temping and I'll test again tomorrow.  I'm going crazy with these OPKS lol.

Where are you getting your information?  That is absolutely not correct.  You're supposed to KEEP testing and you usually ovulate 12-36 hours after your last + opk.  Also, many women, including myself get multiple days worth of + opks (I usually have 3 days, so 6 positive tests).

Please don't give people advice if you do not have correct information.

OP - Keep testing!  If you don't see a temp rise w/in 36 hours of your last + test then you just geared up to O and didn't!  GL!  I hope this is it!!!

The CBE digital instructions say that once you get a smiley there is no need to continue testing.  I ignore those instructions and keep on until I am sure.

Actually, she isn't wrong if the OP is charting. There is nothing wrong with taking extra tests, but you don't have to. In most cases, if you get a positive OPK you are most likely going to O in the next 12-36 hours, like you said. That is the norm. If you are charting you will see a temperature rise and/or dry up of cervical mucus to confirm O, like you said.

If you have sex from positive OPK to confirmed O you are fine and there is no need to continue testing unless you don't get a temp shift within 4 days. I mean you don't start having sex at the last positive, right?

OP, just keep in mind that even when you're charting your temps/mucus as accurately as possible, it's still only accurate within +/- 3 days  so if you get a positive OPK, and ovulate 36 hours later, and have a thermal shift/mucus dry-up 3 days after that, you may have a discrepancy of 4-5days or so between the positive OPK and temp shift/mucus change)
