This past Thursday morning, at about 5:30am, I was awoken by a ridiculously painful leg cramp. It lasted about 3-4 minutes, before it released it's intense grip, and it is still sore today! I searched online and found that it may be a relatively common problem for pregnant women due to the ease of having vitamin deficiencies, but I'm still going to ask my doctor about it. I don't want to have it happen again! (I've been taking my prenatals and drinking tons of water, I promise!)
Has anyone else had this problem? Or any similar types of sudden intense cramping?
Re: Leg Cramps?
Yep, I had it all the time when pregnant with my daughter. I'm just waiting for them to rear their ugly head this time.
I was told it's due to a potassium deficiency. Start eating those bananas and potatoes!

This and kiwi.
Oh goodness, I hope I don't get them nightly! I slept so lightly last night, trying to make sure I didn't start the cramp up again. If this continues... I don't know what I'm going to do! Eat fresh banana pudding, banana bread, fried bananas, banana shakes with a side of kiwi and mashed potatoes... wait, maybe that's not so bad.
It's called a Charlie Horse and apparently really common in pregnancy.
i'm hoping to escape those once again like i did with DD.
i have had them before, very painful
Ugh Charley Horse! They are the worst!
I got them a lot when pregnant with DS. I have only got one so far with this pregnancy. It was the other night, it woke me up & was just as you described!
As someone else said it can be a potassium defiency so load up on your bananas, strawberries, V8 Juice & potatoes!
I had one in my first pregnancy and since then my mw told me to take a high dose of calcium/magnesium before bed each night. Even told me to take it in labor to help reduce the contraction cramps.
1000mg calcium and 400-500 mg magnesium. This also helps you sleep more soundly by relaxing the muscles to fall asleep fast, and the magnesium will help keep your bowels moving as well and is often used in stool softeners. total bonus!
