3D ultrasounds?

I would love to have a 3D u/s this time so I can get a better look at our baby. Is this usually covered by insurance? Do you need to go someplace special to get this done? TIA!

Re: 3D ultrasounds?

  • We had a 3D ultrasound done on our own.  Insurance did not cover it and our clinic did not have a 3D u/s machine.  I did a google search for places in my area that did them and just made an appointment.  I did need to have permission from my doctor to have it done but he was fine with it.  I really liked the 3D u/s.  DD really does look a lot like what she did on the pictures from it!

  • we had one done yesterday as part of our big u/s, they have the equipment at my ob-gyn's office.  it's covered 100% by my insurance.
  • We had a couple 3D renderings done as part of our "big" u/s.  Baby did not cooperate, so the 3D pics are no good to us really.

  • thanks girls! I think I'll ask my OB at the next appointment what their office provides
  • it may just depend on the u/s place. My doc doesn't do any in his office so we go to an ultrasound place around the corner for all our u/s. They have 3D/4D and we get it with every u/s. You can see PIB from 8wk, 12wk, and 20wk 3D u/s. My insurance covers every u/s 100% and it wouldn't matter if they did the whole thing in 3D, insurance covers it because my doc sent me for it. I hope your insurance and u/s experience is an nice as mine is. I know that a lot of places still don't have the capability to do it standard, so this may or may not be an option without you having to go somewhere special and pay out of pocket for it.

  • My OB office uses 3D as their normal u/s.  My insurance did cover it.
