TTC After a Loss

Merideth's elevator rant from Grey's

I think the writers very accurately portrayed the emotion, jealous, anger, frustration many of us are feeling in last nights Grey's episode.  I DVR'd it and typed it out for those who missed it or would like to read it again.

"Yesterday at that baby shower I was jealous of Callie because she got pregnant without trying, and we try.  I get shots, I take my temperature, I put my legs in the air and nothing.  the universe says screw you Merideth, and gives Callie a kid., And then puts Callie through a windshield!  I mean what the hell is going on?  What is the point?  I mean is there a reason for this? Because if you can think of a reason, any reason at all why the universe is so screwed up and random and mean now would be an amazingly good time to tell me because I really need some answers!"

  • I thought it was really good too, especially the part about the universe being screwed up....I think we all feel that way sometimes!

  • I told Brent I wondered which one of the writers is struggling with IF because what she said hit it SO right on-

    I wondered this too!

  • And Derek's reaction reminded me so much of DH, that made me tear up as well!
  • It totally hit home, clearly someone on the writing staff "gets" it.

Did the singing freak anyone else out though? I was almost embarrassed when the singing started... and I'm still not sure what the point was.

  • It was the only part of the whole show where I got a lump in my throat- I was really overall disappointed in it- it could have been SO good without being ruined by stupid singing! Altho Callie has an amazing voice, and Owen I thought sounded lame-

  • I must be the anomaly.  I liked the singing.  I swear my life has a soundtrack, and I have a feeling that if my life were to flash before my eyes people would be singing!  Hahah.  Ironically I can't sing at all but I love listening to music.
  • I dont watch the show anymore... but I watch enough E! News and perezhilton to know what the storylines are etc...

I like the monologue posted above that Merideth said, but a friend from another board who lost her triplets at 20wks is apparently furious with the writers for how they protrayed callie's baby/birth  (I didn't watch the show).  Curious if anyone else thinks they were out of line or not honest enough with the protrayal?  (kinda a spin off from the post the other day about show's not 'getting it' when showing mc/loss)

  • I know, that was so well said!

I didn't care for the "Musical" aspect last night, although they picked good songs, I found it very corny...every time I thought I might cry, they started singing, and I just couldn't get past it...

I loved the quote but did not love callies birth... How far along was callie? It was really hard for me to watch it from that side of it. I dont like that it was used for entertainment.

I personally dont think it was very accurate.

  • I want to say in the show she was at the 23/24w mark, but I don't remember really- I thought the portrayal was as good as it could be with all things considered, altho I think in reality they would have a.) taken the baby much sooner or b.)  the baby would have died in the accident itself given she went through a windshield and the amount of blunt force abdominal trauma with that kind of accident is pretty high. I thought it was stupid that Arizona was able to get her to come back to life seeing that she is a PEDI doc and not a neonatologist-  and also thought it was interesting that there was not ONE nurse in the ER room or OR with her given the fact that in our ER the nurses run the traumas with the exception of one attending and one resident, but that's typical Grey's. Nursing doesn't really exist unless its someone who is screwing one of the docs- again VERY unrealistic.

You're not alone.  I liked the singing too.  I love that they used songs from the soundtrack of the show so far, and I thought it was cool to see them showcase their other talents.

  • That part brought me to tears.  Could have gone without the musical parts of it though.  Every time I thought I was about to lose it, someone would break out singing and totally ruin it for me.
