So maybe this is a stupid question, but I'm new at this... My husband and I have two vehicles, one that we each take to work. Are we going to need two car seats? Or can we get a car seat that just comes with two bases to keep one base in each car. I feel so overwhelmed by all the "stuff" we'll need, it's all kind of a blur right now. TIA ladies and Happy Friday!
Re: car seat question - 2nd time+ moms can you help?
It IS very overwhelming : )
In the beginning (usually the first year depending on baby's weight) you will just need one pumpkin seat and 2 bases. Just register for an extra base and keep a base in each car. Wherever you drop baby off at (DC, sitter, etc) you will bring in pumpkin seat and leave there. That way you don't have to transfer the base as well.
When you get to the convertible carseat stage I would suggest having 2... one in each car. It's a major PITA to move the carseat all the time...
yep, that's what I assumed
This is exactly what we did but switched to the convertable car seat (rear facing) at 8 months. DD was a BIG baby.
We did this a lot when we were visiting the ILs with DD was still in her infant seat, but ditto Julygal, if the baby is going to be in each car frequently, I'd get the second base.
I would definitely get two convertible seats, though they're not particularly difficult to move, it can be time consuming in the morning. You can also get a cheap-o convertible carseat like the Cosco Scenera if LO will be in one car a lot less frequently than the other.
I also wouldn't register for a convertible carseat, though. I'd just wait until LO outgrows the infant seat then buy one. They start to expire from manufacture date, and they're always making improvements.
