Re consigning kids clothes/gear

I have sooooo much that's outgrown, but alot of it is basic brands - Target, Carters, etc. will they accept that stuff @ Once Upon a Child?  I could seriously bring in 5 larger storage "tubs" of clothes/accessories, plus random "gear" that we don't use/never used, etc.  Should I just separate out the nice stuff and just donate the cheapo stuff?

  • If the basic brands are in really good shape I would bring them in what could be the harm?  If they are really faded or worn, I would just donate.

  • You could put on craigslist too...sell it in bulk? Might be easiest way to get rid of it (even the used stuff).
  • I think they go through them for you and give you back what they won't sell.

  • I did totswap and it was pretty good, they gave me 65% and what you don't sell in the weekend you can donate or pick up after the sale is over.  There's totswap, wee sale and wee cycle.

I don't have teh time or energy to go through and price and tag all my stuff.

I want the space back more than I want the money, kwim?

  • Once Upon a Child always warns me as soon as I walk in the door that they only want outfits, not separates. The one woman there is really biitchy.

The Crofton one. If I bring in outfits and its in good condition, they almost always buy it. They don't give you very much though, but it least you are cleaning out clutter and getting a little cash.

  • and, if/when we have #2 (which there's more pressure on now - thankyouverymuch :)) I'm buying so much less stuff.

Really - why do I have 30 NB sleepers???  And, 50 drool bibs??  I'm only exaggerating a little here

  • Yes, IKWYM...it was kind of a PITA.  There's also Return to Oz in Annapolis.  I think you have to make an appointment to bring your stuff in but they sell not only clothes but car seats, kids furniture ect...I think they are picky but they are really nice.

  • I'm sure if there are things you don't want that they won't take at a consignment store someone here will take them off your hands. Hint, hint.

LOL.  I gave away a ton of stuff after I had Ava and I still have plenty for this one so I know exactly what you mean.  For some reason though my mom keeps buying newborn stuff like she feels bad this one will only be in hand me downs...um, so?

I have gone to the one in Ellicott City and they seem pretty nice (unlike apparently the Crofton one) so I would give it a shot.

  • There should be some sort of nestie baby clothing/gear sale GTG.  You can bring your old stuff with prices and other nesties can shop for what they need.  Everyone gets their needs met.

That's not a bad idea - we just need someone to volunteer to organize it.

I wish I could host it but our townhouse isn't big enough.

  • have you looked into Greenberries in Columbia? They accept the basic brands if the stuff is in good shape... The lady there seems very nice.

  • Agree! Great idea!! Especially when it gets nicer out!
  • Another option is Tot Swap or Wee Cycle Sales as well.  You have to do some work on your end, but you get to set the price, etc.  Do a search for them.

  • Wee Cycle actually has a "Quick Drop" option where they do all of the work for you.  You don't get to set the price and you get a lower percentage profit, but it might be worth it for you and you can offload it all in one place.  I did WeeCycle Harford County a little bit ago, and I'm dropping off for TotSwap in Timonium this week.  Once you get into it, it's actually kind of fun.  Plus if you pick up your items at the end of the sale, you can transfer them to the next sale.  I made $375 at the last one!
