Thanks for responding to my post.  Can I ask how many treatments of the silver nitrate were used to dry up the umbilical cord?  Thanks

    just one did the trick. the pedi just used a small qtip thing and put it under the black stump. it causes the discharge to turn black, but then it stops. things should heal up normally after that. It's scary to think that something so ugly isnt hurting your lo, but they dont feel it, so try not to worry too much. once the big stump falls off it becomes less worrisome. just make sure you let it keep drying out! good luck!
