Parenting after 35

I think I am in trouble..

Michael has been throwing what I can only call temper tantrums.  When he gets tired at night, he starts flipping around and throwing himself backwards and crying.  It makes getting him changed for bed very difficult.  Here is the kicker, if we are out in public at his bed time, you would never know.  He is all smiles and charms.  Last night he threw himself backwards as I am trying to change him on the floor and he bumped his head.  He looked at me like "Why did you let me bang my head on the floor?"  I did not think that tantrums happened until they were closer to 2.

  • Charlie has them, too.  They're pretty comical, tho, and you can't help but laugh at him.  He squalls at the top of his lungs and stomps his feet if he doesn't get his way.   He also doesn't want to go to bed right now and does the same things--flips over, tries to run away, etc, even if he's super tired.

nah, both mine started before 2.  The good news is as long as you are consistent in your treatment of them (I would merely ignore them and if necessary, pop them someplace contained like a PNP for a bit), they realize they don't gain much and move on.  It helps as they can communicate more.  If you know this starts up about this time, maybe start his calming bedtime routine a bit earlier to nip it in the bud.  GL!

I wish he would be consistent.  Some nights he is still rockin and rollin at 7:30 and others he is losing his mind at 6:30.  We don't get home until 6 so that means shove some food in his face and start dinner and try to get him changed before the melt down.

And it is kind of funny.

Matty had an insane TT Tuesday night.  He flung himself on the floor and was kicking and crying and crying and kicking.

DH and I left the room (not on purpose we just both had to deal with dinner on the stove) and Matt stopped when he realized his audience left. He came into the kitchen like nothing had happened.

We are going to try that again as long as he is in an area that is safe.

  • Get ready because the tantrums will keep going for a loooong time.

  • My Mikey's usually like that. It's like I want people to know that he's not always so sweet - then I feel guilty for throwing him under the proverbial bus.
  • He is probably just overtired at night. I remember we switched from diapers to pull-ups when Jason was about a year old - couldn't change a diaper either.
