This isn't normal is it? NPR and maybe TMI...

I have always had awful periods but when I got a bit older and went on birth control it wasn't AS bad. Still no picnic.

However, over the past year or so, it's gotten so much worse.  I mean really awful.  I woke up last night with major cramps and used a heating pad all night.  Had to work today, and by the time I got there, had soaked through a tampon and pad.

I was going to take a half day but my boss called in sick so I had to stay and I went through 6 tampons in 8 hours.  I could barely walk I was in so much pain. I stood up and bent over in pain immediately.

My Dr. mentioned maybe I should be tested for endometriosis at some point and I'm thinking maybe he's right.  My mom had it and had to have a hysterectomy around my age, so who knows?  I just know I can't go on like this.  I'm literally gushing at least two days of my period and cannot stand the pain.

Sorry for the TMI, just wondered if anyone else experiences this.  I also have PCOS so that's a whole other issue.  :(  I may DD later too.

  • I went thru the same thing with my periods....it was awful.  I was diagnosed with adenomyosis which is where the uterine tisse grows into the uterine muscle wall.  I had a hysterectomy back in Nov.  It was the best thing I ever did.  I have 100% relief from the pain.

  • Going through the same thing for the past 3 months, my body suck, my hormones are completely out of control, and I have my super period for 8 days, and get 2 days break in between, then start spotting for another 7, I'm just over it, I went in today, my OB suggested that we try BC for 3 months and see, if it does not work then I'm scheduling the Endometrial ablation and go from there.
  • wow. Def. not normal. :( My periods have gotten much heavier since having children. I talked to my Dr. about it and she said that if I was not having children (which we are not. DH had a VS 2 years ago), that I would be a candidate for a procedure where they burn off the layer of your uterus. The procedure is for women with heavy bleeding. Something to think about if you are done having children.
  • Yes, my sister had that procedure done and is done with periods.  When we are sure we are 100% done, I'm signing up for that, I just am not there yet.  Thanks for the feedback, I'm just so tired of this.  It definitely controls my life for 2-3 days a month and is just miserable. I'll have to find a new dr. since my insurance just changed and find out what I can do in the meantime!  Thanks!

I can't bring myself to have the procedure done either because I'm not there! Even though I know we aren't having anymore, the thought of getting pregnant being very dangerous is just not something I want to think about.

Are you on the pill? That might also help the heavy periods. The pill made my periods so light that I only had to wear a panty liner the entire time.
