IVF with ICSI

Is there any benefit of ICSI with IVF? My RE is going to do ICSI when we go through our IVF cycle. I was just curious if it increases your odds of getting pregnant.

Thoughts?

  • I'm not sure if it increases your chances for pregnancy, but it does increase your chances for fertilization. They most often use ICSI for male factor issues or if you don't have a lot of eggs to work with.

    good luck!

  • My RE does ICSI with every patient. Both DH and I have no know IF problems, so I guess we fall in the Unexplained category.

  • I have PCOS and elevated prolactin. We are ICSI'ing all of our eggs - no MFI at all. My RE wants to eliminate any potential other problems out there. On IVF #1, we ICSI'd half of my eggs. The naturally fertilized did fertilize and grow, but none of them made it to ET. They're not sure if that's a coincidence or what, but we're going to ICSI all of them to be on the safe side. I think it's always a good idea to do it if they want. You don't want any other little problems to crop up!

  • Ditto PP, it increases your chances for fertilization. We have MFI (but our RE does it for a variety of other reasons for other patients, as well) and probably would have had zero fertilize without it. GL!
