Not to rain on anyone's parade...

But, it's been my personal experience that you can never be too prepared.  So, I present US News' Best Children's Hospitals listed by Specialty.

You can also see the best hospitals (in general).

But, it's always a good idea to know what's in your neighborhood.

Re: Not to rain on anyone's parade...

  • Thank you for this list. It is SO encouraging to see CHOP is listed in the Top 3 for almost any category. And I know there, as I am sure with many of these top hospitals, if you have an extreme high-risk pregnancy 9say, a baby with a sever heart defect) you can deliver RIGHT THERE.

I don't think you are raining on anyone's parade. I firmly believe that knowledge is power. You can never be too prepared. I don't fall into the "ignorance is bliss" group.

  • My son already sees a GI specialist at Nationwide every 6 months--it's one of the top ranked (Plus we live near Cincy's) and we LOVE it there--it's a great hospital!

  • Thank you for posting! I agree with Gummy that I would rather know ahead of time. Luckily CHOP is near me as well since I'm a Philly-area person too.

  • What would be nice is if they ranked the Obstetrics and L&D hospitals - they list gynecology as a specialty but not OB?  You would think bringing babies into the world would make the specialty list...

  • I'm lucky enough to live in a city (Philadelphia) that has one of the best children's hospitals in the nation for various different specialities.  CHOP is an amazing place and I'm grateful to live in close proximity.

  • Thanks for the link!  I was happy to see the rankings for the hospital where I'm delivering...they're really good.  Yay.  :)

  • A friend of mine is a GI peds specialist at CHOP and it looks like they did really well.  Thanks for this very helpful list.

  • Great list to have around. Hope to never need it, but its nice that the information is out there.
  • The only rain I've got is from living in an area void of any quality medical care. I use to live in Philly and work at HUP, right next to CHOP, so it's devistating to know the care I and my child are going to miss out on. We're at least a 4hr plane ride from the nearest good hospital (Philla, Boston, etc). So sad! I would give anything to move back but DH refuses. :(

  • Wish I didn't live in the middle of nowhere.  The nearest hospital on that list is at least 3 hours away by car.  But it's better than nothing.

  • Thanks for sharing!  It's great to know who's good out there.
