Working Moms

tomorrow's the big day...

...back to work for the first time since last June.  Practice day at daycare: check; Meeting with subs to get caught up on workload: check; everything already laid out for tomorrow morning: check

But what's the one piece of advice you'd share about returning to work?

Re: tomorrow's the big day...

  • Two things:

    1.  If you're going to pump, don't wear a dress.

    2.  Maintain LOW expectations for work productivity.  Reassess as necessary.

    Good luck!

  • Don't feel guilty if you are happy to be back.

  • Every day will get better and better.

You will find a new routine eventually.

  • keep very few expectations for the first week/month.  Being a working mom - even a happy working mom - is an adjustment; be kind to yourself and know that you will get the hang of it soon.

Also - remember dirty dishes and cereal or PB&J for dinner never killed anybody - even if you do it for a month.

  • Bring pics of your DD, that always helped me!
  • All the things KatherynMD said. Lower your expectations, take it easy on yourself, make sure you talk about your feelings with DH or someone else and enjoy every minute you can with your LO even if it means laundry and dishes pile up until they are asleep. Oh, and get to bed shortly after your LO so you aren't too exhausted.  Things will get easier, but those first weeks are a tough adjustment. GL! And come here for support and encouragement.
