4.5 year old now wants privacy to dress? Boy...

He doesn't care about bath time, but when it comes to specifically getting dressed, he wants to be in his room, with everyone out, and the the door shut.

He'll run around naked just fine after bath, but he wants to have privacy to get dressed.

And if he's changing clothes during the day, he won't want to be naked in front of anyone, and asks me to leave his room after laying out his change of clothes.

What's this about?

  • Awe, he's growing up momma!  ;)

He is just getting some modesty about his body.  Joey started the same way -- it was just getting dressed.  It's as if they don't make the connection that they were just naked running from the shower to their room too!  LOL  But I give it another month and he will want to be fully covered after showering too.  Joey doesn't EVER run around the house naked anymore (and he used to be a full on nudist!).  He does run around in underwear but never without them.

  • My daughter (almost 5) is starting to get that way, too, and it is exactly as you described.  She still takes a bath with my younger ds, but after bath, she goes to her room and shuts the door to get dressed.  If I try to open the door, I get, "MOM!  I'm getting dressed!"
  • My DD is exactly the same way. She was mortified yesterday when a friend's toddler tried to pull up DD's shirt and find her belly button. I think it just means they're growing up!

  • DD just started this with baths, it makes bath time harder, but I respect that she needs to be alone right now, she still lets me dress her, but can dress herself. She is still a nudist around the house but I am sure this will change too.Oh and she has to be alone to go to the bathroom she even has to go in her own stall  at a public restroom.
  • Ethan does not want to be seen naked, nor does he want to see anyone else naked. He's closed the door when he went to the bathroom for over a year now. He showers himself, dresses himself...he'll all grown up I guess. LOL.
  • Ben started this a couple months ago....if he's getting dressed downstairs (if we have a lazy morning) he has to go to the bathroom to change.  We always shut the bathroom door when going #1/2 also  - but that's because of certain littler kids walking in all the time (and wanting to play in the toilet/with the toilet paper.

However, after bath when I'm putting lotion on everyone, he loves to run up and stand with his goods all in my face...that is apparently HILARIOUS.

  • My ds started this around 5. When he stayed the night at his grandparents they wanted to help him with his Pjs, he looked at them and said, "I'd like some privacy please.."

  • I was wondering when this would start. He still wants to shower with us and currently none of us seem to be modest around one another but was curious as to when that would stop. What I am not allowed to do is choose which clothes he will wear, he hasn't let me do that since he was 2, he would have a fit until we switched hid clothes. I just hope DD isn't like that, I love dressing her.

  • My DD's BFF is like that, she got to our bathroom to put on dress up clothes (I realize that different than her house).   My kids all still run around naked.  DD shower alone and I bathe the boys separate.
