  • We're using hydrocortisone on the red patches and sealing that in with Baby Aquaphor. Greasy, but effective. Just switched from Aveeno to Dove Sensitive and getting amazing results. I hope you find something that works for your kiddo--eczema sucks.

I have been using Avenno and it's not really helping. I will try the Eurecin. Thanks

  • We use Eucerin lotion and our doc told us to use the plain, unscented Dove soap. My DH, who does all the baths, actually really likes the Dove soap because he says it lathers well, haha.

We use Mustela on his hair.

  • We use straight-up Vaseline on his really bad patches. I use Aveeno lotion but don't think it helps. Someone recommended a Mustela product that I ended up buying from Target but I haven't used it yet.

ETA - we switched to Dove Sensitive too. It does lather really well! I haven't noticed it making much of a difference for us though.

  • We use the Aveeno baby eczema therapy cream all over his body and head.  For baths, I usually don't use soap on his face at all I just use a clean wash cloth and water.  For his body I use the Aveeno Baby Cleansing Therapy (fragrance free).

At night, once he falls asleep, I tip toe in and liberally apply Aquaphor Baby on his face.  He sleeps through the night so it stays on his face without him rubbing it off.

We also use Free & Clear detergents on all of our clothes.  Sometimes he has flare ups on his face but it's usually when we spend the day with family and friends who carry him a lot.

  • Mine had red circles of eczema on her arms back and legs.  I used Aveeno baby eczema cream 1-2 x per day and it cleared it up completely in 6 days, I saw a dramatic improvement after only 1 day.  Her skin is perfect now, but I use it on her after the bath, and I use the Aveeno oatmeal wash for the bath.

  • We use California Baby Super Sensitive for soap and Aquaphor lotion.  She does still have some small patches though - mostly on her arms.  Occasionally she will get patches on her temples but using the Aquaphor definitely calms it down.

The pedi said that some Vaseline worked for a lot of babies. She just said to be careful bc it will stain.  I might get some for bed time.

  • What about Eczema on adults? Can you develop it later on in life? (Sorry if this is a dumb question. I know nothing about it and have never known anyone to get it) If so I think I may be getting a patch on my upper arm.

    :::off to do research:::

They sell it at BRU but I'm sure they must sell it other places too.  Maybe CVS carries it?

Aquaphor was something I wanted to try as well. I think his will get bad at daycare. His teacher wears perfume, which bothers me. So his face flares up the most. However, today was his stomach.

I really recommend the Dove. I think that coupled with the Eucerin (twice a day) is what helped. We used hydrocortisone for the really bad flareups, but I would ask your doc before you use that. Also, I hope you aren't bathing him too much. We only bathe twice a week.

I actually just noticed they sell Mustela at Target now. We like the smell of it. :) They do sell it at BRU too.

Some research says daily baths are good, some say they are bad. We bathe daily, sometimes twice daily. The secret for us is short, frequent, lukewarm baths.

So giving more baths work for you?

  • When you guys say it flares up on their face, is it a flare up of the same scaly, bumpy texture that you might see on other parts of their body?

Madd has always had eczema on his arms (near his elbows and forearms) and is now starting to get some on his tummy. Lately though, I notice that when he comes home from my parents' house, his cheeks are always bright red. They're still smooth though, unlike his other patches. Is that considered a flare up and something that I should consider using lotion on?

You can find it at Target. I found it at Target on McKnight Rd just a few days ago (I see you're from Pgh).

C has scaly dry skin on his face, and then it gets red from him rubbing it. Today his belly really flared up with bumps and red patches.

  • We use a glycol base cream (just got the no-name base cream from the local drug store - ask the pharmacist) and if he has some big flare ups we use the perscription hydrocortizone cream on top of the base cream. The base cream alone has helped termendously!!

We bathe him every night in luke warm water only (no soap or shampoo), pat dry and do the cream.

We're actually at a point where nothing works for us. We just try to stay ahead of the flare-ups and keep him as moisturized as possible. His skin accepts the creams and lotions better after he has had a bath, so we give short, frequent baths and then lather him up well. We use a jar of Vaseline or a tube of Aquaphor every 2-3 days in my house.

We also give him 1.25ml of Zyrtec at night to control the itching.

Poor little thing. It must be awful to be so itchy and not understand.Maybe I will try the frequent luke warm baths for a week or so. I hope they get it all figured out so he stops being so uncomfortable.  I told my H I am looking forward to some uneventful months. He has had the flare up this month, he has shots Tuesday and surgery in May. I just feel so bad for my little guy.

Is the Dove Sensitive a bar soap or liquid?
    A bar.
  • My LO also has really bad eczema and I'm still trying to get it under control.

We use CA Baby Super Sensitive body wash and shampoo, I use olive oil on her scalp and ler her marinate right before her bath (she smells like a caprese salad). We are now using Curel for Eczema lotion, and I also have some non-petroleum type of sealant (like aquaphor) that I put on her trouble spots.

Dye and Frangrance free detergent, no fabric softener (although now I'm thinking to ask Daycare if they do the same...).

We put lotion on her 3x a day, and I've started doing daily lukewarm baths. Anyone else's LOs have an itchy scalp? What do you use? I still feel pretty helpless in this realm :(

  • My sister's second son had bad eczema on his cheeks and in any folds on his body.  My mom suggested she try "Avene" (not to be confused with Aveeno) and she said it worked amazingly.  You can find it in the cosmetics department of drug stores, not with the lotions.
