Face waxing

OK gals- I finally broke down and bought a waxing kit. Does anyone else have experience with this? I am mostly interested in doing my upper lip and chin. I have very LONG hairs that grow and I usually trim them with really good scissors, but i'm so sick of that because it literally needs to be done every other day or so.

So i'm wondering if anyone has had success with facial waxing. I feel like all I hear are horror stories about the hair growing back thicker and darker, but it's already thick, and I already have black ones that i have to pluck!

Any info is appreciated :)

Re: Face waxing

  • No help here, sorry... I usually get it done at my salon and I LOVE it!!!

    Good Luck!

  • I'm blonde, so I don't have a big issue, but am just sensitive about the light hair I have on my upper lip, after I saw another blonde person who clearly was edging towards mustache territory. So, about every two months, I stick some wax strips on there, and yank 'em off. I like a brand I got at Whole Foods - I forget the same. Anyways, it's painful for an instant and otherwise fine. I do sometimes break out on my lip right after doing it, and I haven't figured out to avoid it, but it's temporary.

  • if I do it myself, I always put ice on it right away afterwards. Even at the salon, if I come right home, I put ice on my face.  It gets less red and less chance of breakout, etc.

go for it, it isnt hard. the wax can be sticky and get on stuff - annoying!

  • I've never done a home waxing kit but my aesthetician assures me facial hair does not grow back darker and thicker. I have blonde hair but I've been getting my brows and lip waxed monthly for the past 6+ years...and it's never grown back darker/thicker...if anything, it grows back thinner (I don't know about it being lighter since it was already pretty light to begin with but it definitely has not grown back darker).

GL!  You are very brave to do it yourself, I don't trust myself and just pay a professional to take care of it for me :)

  • I have no experience but- my friend tried it herself on her upper lip and ripped a lot of her skin off.  It looked SO painful.  Now she only gets it done professionally.

  • I don't have any advice on waxing, but I use the "Smooth Away" kit you can get at Walgreens on my mustache. I have to do it every few days, but it works pretty well!

  • I HAVE to get my upper lip waxed, and sometimes my sister (who is a beautician) does other random spots on my face.  She, herself, waxes her chin and works with other girls who wax their whole face...But, it's not a kit?  Anyhow, no funky hair regrowth here...although SOMETIMES i do break out after the waxing...just small little pimples.

  • I would be careful about this if you have dry/sensitive skin. I usually have dry skin and have to moisturize well before using an at-home kit, but now that I'm pregnant it's super dry/sensitive and prone to breakouts. I won't be using my at home-kit again until after the baby comes. Threading might be a good option for pregnant ladies.

I LOVE threading! I swear it changes the whole look of my face

  • Can you please explain what threading is? I don't know but I'm totally interested! I've never been a big fan of waxing but I'm getting desperate, I feel like since getting pregnant I'm covered in hair and it's growing so much faster!

  • I find waxing the upper lip not bad, but will never ever again wax my chin on my own again. Total operator error but quite painful!
