Shower food ?s

OK im helping my mom out with my shower, because #1 she doesnt know any of my friends, #2 shes the BIGGEST procrastinator ive ever met (besides my DH) and #3 she doesnt have a whole lot of time to her self (she has 2-3 jobs) and i dont do anything here other than clean up and cook sometimes. :)

so i have been stalking the pioneer womans cooking blog! and OMG she makes some A-M-A-Z-I-N-G looking and sounding stuff!!!! So i was thinking about maybe making some treats for my shower... is this a good idea? or a disaster waiting to happen?? and i wouldnt even know how much to make or if everyone would want to eat it?.... should we just order a cake???  or should we have the fun making this delicious looking confections and hope they like it?

Thanks!!!

  • I would totally make whatever it is your talking about. It is fun to go a non-traditional route and I am sure your guests will love it.... just as long as it isn't some really strange flavored dessert or whatever.

  • We are totally non-tradtional with this whole shower. LOL. we are having it at a pizza parlor. if any of you are from ohio around the dayton area Marion's Piazza. Now i know that NONE of these really go with pizza but they sound way too good not to make!

I've made tons of PW's stuff (have her cookbook too) and it's all turned out perfect.  The Chocolate Sheet Cake is AWESOME.  seriously...so good. and SUPER simple!  The brandy snaps look a little time consuming and difficult though...

Oh, and I HIGHLY recommend making a batch of her cinnamon rolls.  It makes a TON, so buy some tin pie plates and give some away (they also freeze, unbaked, really nicely so that's another option) but they are awesome.  I made some last weekend and took a 13x9 pan into our church group, had a small pan of 5 at home, gave away a pie plate full (7-8) to a friend AND have 4 more pie plates worth in the deep freeze for whenever we want to bake some up on the weekends : )

Om my gosh!!!! thats ALOT of cinnamon rolls!!!!! WOW!!! i am going to continue to stalk her blog, it makes me hungry looking at it all... lol

  • My mom is just doing appetizers and I'm not sure if shes getting a cake or not. I will definitely have to check out that blog though. I do love cinnamon rolls!

In case you were curious, I would fall in love with you if you brought any/all of these as treats to your baby shower. They are AMAZING! And now, I may need a soft serve cone to tide me over through this stupid WORK DAY! LOL
