Green B.E.A.N gals

Okay, so I FINALLY signed up, using my Groupon from ages ago.

My ? - do you just go with the $35 produce bin (bi-weekly), or what do you order to get to the $35 standing order threshold?

Re: Green B.E.A.N gals

  • I usually do all produce. Though sometimes I do the traders point yogurt, or some meat, or milk.

BTW - It wouldn't let me list you as referral, since I had to use that space for my Groupon ID. Boo!

  • We do the $35 bin bi-weekly.  We usually do a combo of fruits and produce.  When I can't find things I need for the week, I'll order herbs/garlic/onions/ etc that keep a little longer.

  • Also, what was in your last bin? Is each bin drastically different, from [bi]week to [bi]week? I just want a basic idea of what we'll be working with.

    Good idea!

So, you can customize the order, within the standard bins, each time? Do you do this a few days prior to delivery?

  • Yes. they start you out with a default bin that is different every week, but you can change out every single item if you want. I always go through and zero out everything I know we won't want and then add back. The substitutions are listed from highest to lowest value and it indicates if you don't have "room" for the high value stuff.

You can make your changes from Thursday afternoons (you will get an email every week reminding you if you're scheduled for a delivery or not that week) until Monday at noon.

    Yes sweetness

WHY have I waited so long to do this?! ::kicks self, repeatedly::

  • Yep, you customize every week.  I believe the change period is something like Thursday-noon on Monday, the week before your delivery.  Final orders have to be in by noon on Monday the week of your delivery.  They'll send an email to remind you. :)

They don't offer the exact same things each week due to supply, time of year, etc.  We mix it up a little bit but usually get strawberries, bananas, grapes (when they have them), apples, kiwi, pears, brussel sprouts, asparagus, mushrooms of some sort (whatever kind DH wants, I hate mushrooms), lettuce, potatoes of some sort, celery, baby carrots, etc.  Every once in a blue moon I'll have a hard time filling the bin due to what they're offering that week and our lack of adventurous spirit in the veggie dept, so I get garlic, ginger root, onions, etc.  It doesn't happen often, though.

  • We usually get the large bin every other week and then about once a month add in some bulk things like beans and spices.
  • You know what is effing awesome that they have right now? the medjool dates.  They're delicious.

Scared of you and your large bin. Wink

  • Ok I feel like an idiot, I didn't realize you could customize your bin!  I just thought I had to take what they give me every week.  I end up giving away what I don't like or (I hate to say this) I have just tossed a few things!!  I am so glad to know this!!
