The only time I spent that much on kid shoes was for Gretchen when she as a flower girl and the bride told me what kind of shoes she wanted at the very last minute and I couldn't find anything at Target.
We get most of the kids shoes from L.L. Bean or sierratradingpost.
I don't usually, but I tried buying the fake Crocs and they broke and Target and Payless sandals REEK after a few wearings. The Sunports were $5 more than Crocs and since I got DS2's Crocs for $2 at a consignment sale (that I've already made over $400 at and it's only been public one day), I splurged for DS1. I love the Croc-like shoes for summer since they can be easily rinsed out and dry quickly.
I'm a cheapass about most other things, though. In fact, the shoes that have sold at the sale were from Target clearance and I priced them for what I paid or higher.
I wish I could be cheap when buying the kids' shoes. They both have Flintstone feet--wide and high insteps, and it's a pain to fit them. It's a shame for everyone b/c they would love those sparkly princess shoes, or cute little sandals at Target, but they just won't fit. So I'm stuck paying around $50 a pop for Jumping Jacks shoes and Tsukihosi sneakers (the only 2 brands that seem to fit DD#1). I'll sometimes find things at Payless, but not often enough!!
Not unless it is something very special. C loves Lelli Kellie sneakers. The most I have ever spent on them is $35 at Marshall's. That is alot to me. I scour the clearance racks at Marshall's for most of her shoes. I can't see spending big dollars on something that is going to get trashed pretty quickly.
While I certaintly prefer not to spend $40 on their shoes, it is the one thing they wear everyday...so I don't want to hate them. The boys both wore the same Stide Rite sneakers the entire winter, only subbing out for a pair of boots once in a while. Plus I pass DS #1's shoes down to #2 whenever possible, so we get more wear out of them that way as well. DD-to-be on the other hand, she will have a million pairs and none will be $40
This is the 4th year DS has had Keens (I guess we were ahead of the nest trend) and I've never paid more than $20 a pair. I just look for them on clearance or when 6 pm has them on sale. dD's were only $13 this year and I can probably resell them for at least that.
I dont even like spending $40 on shoes for myself, so i'm with you on that. DD has a bunch of pairs of shoes, but not one single pair is more than $15.
I'm super cheap when it comes to shoes. With as fast as Ethan grows, I can't justify spending much on shoes, not to mention that when most of his shoes were purchased, we never planned on having a second son to hand shoes down to.
I typically never spend a lot of money on shoes period - my kids get the Target version of the crocs! Keens for the summer is my one exception since my girls pretty much live in them everyday when at school all summer. My older DD's class has a no croc policy and no sandals that don't have straps policy so she has a choice of her sneakers or her Keens and she chooses the Keens 9 times out of 10 since who wants to wear socks in the summer??? I did look at Target for a less expensive Keen style shoe and they don't carry them in girl colors - only in black and neither of my girls wanted them (I don't blame them, you could tell they were boys shoes).
I consider myself pretty cheap?I never pay full price for anything. But after resisting buying Keens for my oldest and watching him destroy Target or Payless sandals mid-summer, I reconsidered. (We do a lot of camping and hiking in the summer.) I'd rather pay more for one good, indestructible pair than go through several cheaper pairs.
We buy Stride Rite shoes at the outlet or Nordstrom Rack and I have never spent more than 25 dollars on a pair. I found kids Keens on a website recently for 16 dollars, 20ish with shipping.
I don't pay full price for anything.

I don't buy cheap shoes - but I don't pay full price for them either! I don't see the point in spending $10 on cheap, garbage shoes that are going to fall apart when you can get a really good pair on sale somewhere for the same or just a bit more.
Re: s/o Am I the only one too cheap to spend $40 on kid shoes?
DS - December 2006
DD - December 2008
Yo.
I only got Samantha her beloved Twinkle Toes as a bribe for having 14 nights in a row with dry pullups. Sh*t the shoes I have on right now were $10...

I buy keens and crocs on sale. I can't justify $40+ per pair either, but I still manage to find what I want. ;-)
The shoebacca.com deal is great for that. I think it was on eversave yesterday, you can check and see if it's still there today.

These are what DS has and they are great. We are getting another pair for this year. I wish they had them in Navy or Blue though!

David "BD" 2/8/07 Spencer 9/12/11I looked at those, but they don't have DS's size.
