XP from the April 2011 board. Our LO decided she didn't want to wait until April to meet us ![]()
Because of my PIH, I had been on bed rest since 2/28 and had been on weekly dr appts & NST's since my 32nd week of pregnancy. At my 35th week appt on 3/8, the dr went over signs of labor & what to do. At this appt, we also scheduled a c-section for 4/4 since the LO was still sitting breech (she had been that way for quite some time).
The morning of 3/11, MH was getting ready to leave for work. I decided to go back to bed & rest (and Bump, of course). I climbed into bed and got myself situated. Just as I turned on the laptop I sneezed...and felt a pop, I knew what that pop was and thought "oh no!" I was 35 weeks & 5 days pregnant & my water had broken. I got up out of bed & the water just kept coming. MH hadn't left for work yet, so I called for him, then I called my dr. The dr told me to get over to the hospital & not to eat anything due to the c-section possibility. I took a shower & took a flat-iron to my bangs.
MH & I got into the car and headed to the hospital. I didn't have any contractions at this point. The dr confirmed my water had broken & that LO was still breech--the c-section was a go. She said at this point it was for the best that the baby be delivered that day. Surgery was scheduled for 2:30 PM to give my stomach time to empty (I had eaten before my water had broken).
Remember I said I wasn't having any contractions? They showed up when I got settled into my room. First they were 5 mins apart, then quickly started coming every 3 minutes and it was only 11:30 AM at this point. The nurses found my dr, who said she wasn't going to leave me go on like that until 2:30--they were doing the c-section ASAP.
Our little girl arrived via c-section on 3/11/11, weighing in at 6 lbs 2.4 oz with a headful of dark hair (I wonder what she would've weighed if she waited until 4/4 to come out). She spent the first night in the NICU for observation, but went to the general nursery the next night. She's doing great. We're trying to breastfeed, but: LO loves the milk but isn't a fan of the boob, lol. For now I'm pumping what I can & supplementing that with formula (I was doing this while we were in the hospital). I'm hoping the lactation consultant can help us out.
My c-section went very well and the recovery is going much better than I anticipated. I wouldn't say I was pain-free, but the pain level wasn't anything like I had thought it would be. The only issue that still bugged me was the PIH. My BP reads were still excessively high after LO was born. My dr wouldn't discharge me from the hospital until she got my pressure under control. It was a little disappointing thinking that I was going home on Tuesday only to find out that afternoon I wouldn't be. I was discharged on Wednesday. I'm currently on BP meds, but should be coming off of them soon as they're doing a great job controlling my pressure. For now, a visiting nurse comes to the house every other day to check my BP and I see my ob/gyn once a week for follow-up. I was told to rest as much as I can--kind of hard to do that as a new mom, lol.
