when did you ladies take your LO's to the dentist for the first time? DS has a full set of teeth, he's only 14 months old though. Do you go by age, or by the teeth in their mouth to determine when to take them?
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends having your LO seen by a dentist for the first time by 12 months of age. This is to help you make sure you are brushing your LO's teeth properly, to stay ahead and make sure there are no major problems that you could over look and to introduce your LO to the dentist, etc. We took our son at 14 months and we went to a pediatric dentist and not to our own dentist.
Once you take them in you go every 6 months just like you do.
Noah also has a mouth full of teeth. I took him a few weeks ago (14 months old) they really just did a 30 second exam and made sure everything look okay.
The pedi dentist said 1 yr or 8 teeth. We took DD around 14 months, and she just went back yesterday for her 6 mo check. The first time they just looked at and counted her teeth and did a flouride wipe. This time they actually scraped along the gumline to get any tartar and did the flouride. I was so surprised, but DD did great!

I work for a dentist. We recommend bringing your baby in as soon as they have broken teeth.. ie, 6 months.
We also have patients on Medicaid who require babies to be seen at 6 months regardless of teeth.
