Re: ~*~*~*Pregnant Again Check-in*~*~*~

  • Update: Hi everyone! Nothing new to report since last week. Still waiting for my u/s next Fri. to see if I will need a C section  (for placenta previa). I feel like I have a ton left to do to prepare for this baby, but the list isn't getting any shorter. Indifferent

QOTW: I drive a Mazda CX-9 and we aren't planning on getting anything new. I love my car, and we planned on keeping it for a while when we bought it 2 years ago. Right now, DD's Graco My Ride 65 is rear facing in the middle of the backseat. It's not installed yet (see above about things still left to do for this baby), but we're going to use the Graco Snugride 32 we used for DD for this baby. The plan is to move DD's seat to one side and install the infant seat on the other side. I have no idea how this is going to work as the My Ride is a very large seat when rear facing, and my DH and I are both somewhat tall. Hopefully we won't be too squished in the front seat. Eek! If it is too uncomfortable for us, I have thought about getting a Sunshine Radian or other smaller seat for DD to use rear facing. Then when she is ready to be forward facing she can go back into the My Ride and #2 can use the smaller convertible. Hopefully we don't have to do this since I would rather not spend the $$$ on a new seat!

  • Update: Doing pretty well! Looking forward to my anatomy scan on Monday. Not looking forward to camping out at the hospital next week with Eliza. I am sure my already sore back is going to be breaking. I am feeling big for 18w!

Carseats: I drive a Ford Escape and Dh drives a VW Passat. In the Escape, we will use the Britax Boulevard 70 for E and the Grace Snugride 32 infant seat for the new baby. Dh has never had a carseat in his car, but we are thinking about getting a second base and a cheapy convertible that Dh or my mom can use as needed. We would love a bigger SUV or maybe a minivan (gasp!), but don't want to take on a pymt right now. Maybe after we buy a house...

  • Update: Haven't been on much lately, so busy at work. My due date changes to 10-14-11 a couple of weeks ago, so if that could be updated, that would be great! Otherwise, nothing much to report. We have our NT scan tomorrow, so it will be fun to see the little gummy bear again:)

QOTW: I'm jealous of the Mazda CX-9, that was the car I wanted but DH had to get a new car at the same time as I was (he started having transmition issues), so I couldn't splurge like I wanted to:( So, I'm driving a Mazda5 (think small, sportier mini-van, LOL--I like my low profile tires!). This is my "upgraded" vehicle for the new addition. I was previously driving a Kia Sportage which was plenty big for us but was a manual transmission and didn't have a lock key fob, two very big inconveniences when you have LOs. Since the Mazda5 has second row captains chairs, Ethan is already outboard on the passenger side and #2 will go behind the driver.

On a side note, DH is 6'5" and he can fit ok on the passenger side of my Mazda5 with Ethan's Evenflo convertible behind him (also a large profile seat when RF'ing). He's a little cramped but not uncomfortable. I'm sure you'll be fine in the CX-9.

  • QOTW: What kind of car do you drive and will that change with a new addition?

I drive an '04 Jeep Liberty and we just bought a 2011 Ford Escape for DH to drive.  With this last purchase, I think we are good unless we decide to have a third baby.  Then that will be awfully difficult cramming three carseats into the back, even if they are SUVs.  We will probably get some sort of minivan or Suburban type vehicle at that point, but it's down the road.  I think we're good for now!

    Question Ideas:

What names have you and DH agreed on?

What names do you like that are really 'out there' ?

If money were no option, what one baby item would you splurge big-time on?

How will you help your other LO(s) prepare and adjust to a new baby in the house?

Do you plan on following the same birth procedure as last time (i.e. meds, no meds, C-section, OB, midwife, etc.)?

What concerns do you have with this pregnancy that you didn't have with your first?

  • Update: NT scan was Tues and all looked well. Still two heartbeats, but the tech wouldn't hazard a guess as to sexes:(

QOTD: We only have one car, Lexus RX300. In all the online research I've done, I think we can make it work with 3 Radian carseats in the backseat (with 4 inches to spare). We'll most likely have to turn Sophie's carseat to FF, but I'm not too upset about that as she'll be 21 months. We'll probably start with one Radian (Sophie) and 2 infant car seats, moving to 3 Radians once the twins outgrow the infant seats.

I REALLY thought we were going to have to buy a new car but fingers crossed that we don't!!!

  • Update - I don't think there's anything new going on.  I'm barely using the doppler at all because I can feel the baby moving more and more each day.  I'm loving it.

QOTW - I asked because I just can't decide what to do with our car situation.  My husband's employment is iffy past one more year so I'm concerned about buying a new or used car and having a monthly payment.  Right now both cars are paid for but they are both older and so we seem to be spending money all the time on reparis.  Addtionally, I'm not sure how we'll cram three car seats into the back of both of them.  DH actually transports the kids more than I do, however, we often do things like today where he drops them off and I pick them up.  So, both of our cars need to be able to take all three and both need permanent car seats in them.

I have been looking at the Chevy Traverse and other three seat crossover type vehicles but holy cats are they expensive - even the used ones!  Also, would a mini-van be a better idea?  We also need something that will tow a boat.

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

  • Update:  Failed my GD test so now I am on the diet.  So far the numbers have been controlled with diet alone so I should be okay and not have to do insulin.  We will see.

QOTW:  We have a Honda Element and I hate it.  The doors don't open the right way in the back so it's really hard to have rear facing seats in there.  We will keep it though since we don't have a car payment.  It's not a huge deal just a PITA.  I think we will use the infant seat from DS since he only used it a handful of times, he hated it.  It within the time limit so I feel okay about it.

Sorry! Thanks for bringing that to my attention, and I will change it right away. I always look back at the last post, but I am usually looking for new people to add.

  • Update - I had an appt on Mon and the everything is going well.  We don't have a NICU on Maui so I talked to my Dr about delivering on Oahu.  She is fiine with it but it means I need to find an OB there and be there when I am 36 weeks until after I deliver.  So that means DH has to take an extra week off work and we have to figure out a place to stay for up to 2 weeks before I deliver. I'm a little discouraged about the added financial costs but we feel strongly that delivering at a NICU is the right thing to do.

QOTW - I drive a Rodeo and DH drives an Outback.  Three carseats will fit in either car but we still plan on trading my car in on a mini van this summer.

  • update-  NT scan was Tues. and everything looked good, though I won't get final results until my second blood draw in a couple weeks.  also, have to do the GTT test today, really hope i pass!

QOTW: (from itsmevkb) What kind of car do you drive and will that change with a new addition?  I drive a Honda CRV and that won't change, 2 carseats will fit fine.  However, DH drives a 2 door Civic and we will have to get another car.  So far we've been looking into the Pilot.  Luckily, we don't need to worry about a new car for a while since I'll be on maternity leave for about 5 months.

Also if you are far enough along to know, what car seats do you plan on using and how/where will they fit?  DS is in a Marathon and the new baby will just be in his old Graco infant seat.  After that we'll probably get another Marathon since we like it with DS.
