Do you tip your mail carrier, newspaper delivery person, trash people, hairdresser, dog groomer, etc? How do you determine who gets a tip and why?
The only people I don't tip from that list is my trash people and I did but they suck so I stopped tipping them. My mail carrier is awesome and I love her so I always give her a holiday bonus. I always wonder if you are supposed to tip your dog groomer or not though, I know its a lot of work and all but it's so freakin' expensive already without a tip.

Re: S/O tipping
I tip my hairdresser because she's really good. (I only go once or twice a year though.) Until I found her my tips for the hairdresser were small because I was going to places like Great Clips for cheap hair cuts and they never really did a good job with my hair. The girl I go to now washes and straightens my hair before she even begins to cut. She also actually listens to what I want done.
I know my parents would often leave a holiday bonus for our mail lady, but I've never done so because I've never talked to our mailperson.
I mainly tip food delivery drivers, servers at restaurants, and bartenders.
I tip my hairdresser 20% for her service. I also tip installers--the guys who did our carpet got $20 each.
Mail carrier no. We read the NYT online. Trash people are supposed to get tips? Dog groomer would if we had one.
Trah People/garbageman: At both places I lived I never saw them. We had long driveways at both. However each Christmas they always get a gift from DH and I plus a thank you card.
Mailman: Again I have no mailbox at my house I have to drive down the road. So they get a Christmas gift (gift card and whatever I make that year for goodies) and a card.
Dog groomer: No, I dont have any dogs now. And always had animals before that didn't need that extra attention.
Newspaper: When we got the paper we tipped.
Hairdresser: Yes! Anyone that can handle my hair deserves a big fvcking tip.

I really only tip in restaurants (dine in, carry out, and delivery) and for spa services (hair, nails, massage, etc). If I had a dog, I would probably tip the groomer since it's like a spa service for dogs.
I don't tip for mail or garbage pickup, and we don't get a newspaper. I guess because these are regular daily/weekly services so you obviously wouldn't tip every time. I could see giving a holiday bonus if you had particularly good service with a specific person, but I couldn't even tell you if we have the same people doing these jobs every time. Plus, a tip should reflect a person's quality of service and sometimes our mailman knocks over our garbage can (I've watched him do it) and neither the mailman or the trash collector does a very good job of picking it up so I've got garbage rolling around in my front yard and my neighbor's yards. I wouldn't tip for that.
