Disney Meal Plan fyi

I know there have been quite a few discussions this week about the meals and what people decide to spend money on at Disney.

This just came to me...last year and this year, we got the meal plan for free.  So, all of our table dining (some character meals, some not) is costing us a tip.  All of the counter meals are free.  Of course, I believe you have to stay at a Disney resort to do the meal plan, so if you don't want to do that, it's a moot point.  But, last year, they credited the amount of the meal plan back to me because it was not being offered for free at the time I booked.  This year, it was free for the dates we wanted when I booked it.  And, usually, it is a 3 day minimum trip, I believe.  Just a heads up that might help someone!

    It's the meal plan that includes 1 table service, 1 quick service and 1 snack per day.  During certain times of the year, if you book a minimum stay at a Disney resort, that meal plan will be free.  They only set aside a set amount of these reservations at the different hotels.  So, last year, we had to switch hotels, but got credited back the entire amount of the meal plan because we had already paid in  full for our trip.  This year, we booked it while the free meal plan was being offered for our dates.

    Wow never knew about this! Do you know when the best time is to try and book this package? Sorry for all the questions. We try to travel to Disney as often as we can afford. Any opportunity to save us some cash is great!

    They have run the free mealplan for the past few years because we get it every year. They usually run it from Sept to Nov. It is soo worth it and saves our family hundreds of dollars and we eat like princesses our entire trip. Actually, it is soo much food that we end up having a bunch of snacks the day we are leaving and cash them in for Mickey Mouse Rice Crispy treats and take them home and enjoy them when we get home:)
