We have been calling the baby Eli since about week 22.. so it's definitely stuck with us now...

However, my husbands last name ends with LIA and we think Eli __LIA sounds weird, so we want to make a "long" version of Eli. We thought Elias was the winner, but my husband just pointed out the ability for teasing kids to call him Eli-Ass.

...so that leaves Elijah and Elliot (which is conveniently my grandfathers middle name). Thoughts? Feelings? Should we stick with Elias and just assume kids are gunna find a way to make fun of other kids regardless?

Have a teacher friend run it by kids. When my friend named her son Jackson, my whole class said, "like MICHAEL JACKSON?!?!?!"
Who knew that name would get a nickname too?

My friend named her baby Elias and her last name ends in -ias, I never can get over the whole rhyme thing.

Personally, I like Elijah. Does it have to be an E name? If not Ari is close to Eli and I can't think of any nicknames for that one.

I really like the name Elliot, if that helps. :-)

I don't think kids will say Eli-Ass, especially if he is called Eli most of the time.

How do you pronounce Elias? I am saying EL-ee-uhs.

I would pronounce Elias, E-lie-us.

While none of those names are my style...I would choose Elliot if I had to choose one.

Uh-lie-us is how we've been saying it.

Personally I really wanted to name the baby Rocco but my husbands super italian last name makes it sound like a pizza place. hehehe.

I actually really like Ari! We're in Brooklyn in a pretty jewish populated area, and eveerrrrryyyy kid is name Ari.

I like Elias...I went to high school with him and no one said anything about "ass." Yet, my name is Melissa, and in middle school people realized my name backwards had ass in it and started calling me ass-i-lem. Kids will be kids and I think no matter what they will be made fun of at some point in their life. And there really isnt anything you can do about it. But if it bothers you that much I would go with Elijah. I don't see Eli as a nn for Elliot...and I had a hampster named Elliot so that's all I can think of! haha!

I like Elias. I don't think kids will pick that apart too much. Kids will be kids and they will find something regardless. Like PP said, if he goes by Eli all of the time most kids wont even know. My second choice would be Elijah.

I like Elias the best personally. I am of the opinion that kids can make fun of any name no matter what it is. That is what kids do, and if they don't make fun of the name they will make fun of something else.
