I really need to start buying healthier for myself and eating better. My fist pregnancy I was crazy strict about everything and made sure my DD was developing as best I could. Now she's 2 and I make sure she has a balanced healthy diet but i end up falling short for myself. I feel like I can't let this baby get by on fried foods and salt. I'm open to any food suggestions you ladies might have on some things you ALWAYS buy at the store.

Re: staple groceries
Cheerios
Chicken breast (usually bake the whole package to cut up and put in other dishes or eat as is)
Cheese squares for snacks
Peanut butter
Whole wheat bread
Apples
Romaine lettuce
Tomatoes
I could live on those foods alone...pregnant or not
I stock up on fruit for sure. It's been a consistent win. I've had a hard time with food in general though. I pack a lunch every day, and without fail the nice healthy meal that I pack looks completely unappetizing to me by the time I get to lunch. Today I had brown rice and black beans with salsa and just couldn't eat it. So, I decided to stock up on Amy's Organics frozen meals. Not the best, but not the worst and at least I'll eat SOMETHING if I have a variety to pick from
Other staples - oats, whole wheat bread, peanut butter, beans, frozen fruit for smoothies, skim milk

yogurt and frozen fruits for smoothies
pasta (wheat or regular depending on my mood)
canned, fresh and frozen veggies (i like to have a good variety)
ground turkey
wheat bread, sliced turkey and colby jack cheese for sandwiches
i always have peanut butter around
we always have pretzels as well
I change up our menu of meals quite a bit, so i make a weekly or biweekly menu and either write down what i need for each recipe (and mark off what i still have) or take my cookbook with me to the store.
Like the PP said, meal planning is key for me. DH, DD, and I all go to the grocery store together every Sunday morning, and I usually will cook or put together 1-2 meals that afternoon (cassaroles, pork tenderloin, lasagna) and that helps out alot with making sure we are eating balanced, healthy meals. I work FT and so planning ahead is so important. In terms of weekly staples, I always make sure we have: wheat bread (or buy multipacks from costco and freeze the other loaves), eggs, deli meat, fruit (bananas, apples, oranges, and some kind of berries), frozen veggies, easy rice dishes, pretzels, block cheese for snacking, yogurt, milk.
We have a good amount of storage space in our kitchen and pantry, as well as a second fridge/freezer, and so I usually try and stock up when there are sales or buy larger packs at costco of things like frozen veggies, meat and chicken (I break it out into smaller, 1 meal packages), bread, snacks, cereal, etc.
If you ever want meal idea, feel free to PM me.
