I need to AW my little man

PT and OT have given up on him crawling, he's 10 months.  His hip flexors are just so tight (he has severe hypertonia).  So next week we're going to work on getting him in a baby walker and moving his legs independently on a treadmill.

Guess who pushed himself up on all fours today?!!!  Without any help from me, I was watching him play on his tummy, and he just gave a big push with his arms and rocked back onto his knees. He did it 3 times!!!

ETA:  Thanks ladies!!! therapy had given up for now, because he wants to be mobile but can't.  His hip flexors are pretty much locked in the sense of pulling his legs under.  He has never even come close to touching his toes.  So they had given up for now and were moving on to walking to see if getting him to move his legs independently would help loosens his hip flexors.  They probably would have come back to it but for now they were just going to concentrate elsewhere.

To my boys:  I will love you for you Not for what you have done or what you will become I will love you for you I will give you the love The love that you never knew

  • Yay!  I am so excited to hear this great news!

Isn't it wonderful when they achieve something they haven't done before?!

  • Fantastic!!  Be happy and proud!!

And shame on your therapists for saying something is out of reach - do they realize just how amazing our kiddos are? :)

I cannot believe they "gave up". Nate didn't crawl until right before he turned 15 months. Giving up was never an option, although he has done a pretty fine job of wiping up our floors with his bottom!

  • Congratulations!!  That's great.  It's the best feeling when they do something new.

And I agree that's horrible that they have given up on him crawling.  My daughter is 14 months old and not crawling, but her therapists keep working on it.  I would be so mad if they said they give up.

  • Awesome - great news!  My daughter didn't sit up until 15 months and didn't crawl until 17 months.  Don't give up hope at 10 months! We weren't even close at that point.
  • Woohoo! Way to go, little man!
