This was suggested to me by my longtime bff and the only one of my close friends who breastfed and made her own baby food. I take her advice to heart.
What are your thoughts on this.
Her argument was that her rental fee was $30 monthly. She only wanted to breastfeed for a year. Quality of hospital grade breastpumps is hard to beat. And...if it just isn't right for you, or just isn't working, you're not out a bunch of money.
Now I'm not sure what I'm doing.
Re: Anyone renting their brestpump from the hospital?
I put a breast bump on my registry but if I don't get it... I'm going to rent one from the hospital for a month or so to make sure I'm even going to be able to pump and produce milk before I spend the money on one.

My older sister recommended I consider renting first too. The reason being to make sure I'm ABLE to breastfeed before I go out and spend a ton on a high end pump. I'll be going back to work and intend to BF as long as I can, so I want a good, fast pump to get the job done quickly later on - so I'm willing to spend a lot of $$ on it.
But you ladies in pp make a good point about finding out if the hospital even has enough to go around. I'd hate to plan on renting, and then find out the hospital is out!
This is exactly what I had planned to do, for many of the reasons listed (might not work out, issues getting enough milk, etc) but when I found out insurance will pay for it, I figured what the heck. I plan to do it for a year, and I have to go back to work after 6-8 weeks, so I am purchasing one of the Medela pumps. They are supposed to be very, very good, and they have some nice "travel" models I can use to take back and forth to work.
Just haven't figured out which one yet.
I think if you don't have insurance to cover it, that renting a great option, especially if you are on the fence, even a little, about breast feeding.
You know what pisses me off about these breast pump rental fees, is that the hospitals make such a HUGE profit on them!! Doctors recommend feeding breast milk over formula yet they make these ridiculous rental fees per month which is almost as much as buying formula!! I know you can get cheaper breast pumps, but they hospital grade ones are the best.
