Constipation - sorry tmi

How are you ladies dealing with constipation? I know its common but it is driving me crazy!

  • The book Your Pregnancy Week By Week has a few different things in it you can do for constipation.

  • Colace helped me, but it took about a day to work.  Also drinking lots of water and going for walks helped as well.
  • Constipation is actually my only symptom. I have done everything but still i can't go everyday. here is a list of thing you can do:

    Eat plenty of fruit and vegetables, like papaya, lettuce, prunes, plums. Stay way from mangos, bananas and spinach since the can slow things down there.

    Eat lots of fiber  and stay away from pasta, and bread

    Metamucil, miralax, milk of magnesium are safe during pregnancy

    Drink plenty of water, since you are probably retaining more water your stools get dry and then it is harder to pass

    Exercise

  • Last time around eating kiwi and drinking no sugar added apple juice helped move things along for me.  You can also have your DH put some pressure just above the tailbone area of your back--it can stimulate some nerve endings there that can help get things moving.
