Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

what's in your diaper bag?

I'm looking for a diaper bag big enough for my 21 month DS and my soon to be newborn. Everyone keeps telling me that a skip hop duo (not double duo) should be big enough but i can barely get everything in the coach bag i have. I'm thinking maybe I'm putting too much crap in there? So just curious what you guys bring for your DC around 21 months so maybe I can eliminate something.

Re: what's in your diaper bag?

  • ummm ...i just have a couple of dry snacks in there...change of clothes. socks diapers and wipes thats it! I usually have stuff in my car just incase.

But if we are going somewhere specific and i know we will be gone for a while i just throw what i need in there. but above is usually just what i have.

  • I use a lands end tote bag or a backpack.. Depending on what we are doing.

    Our diaper bag:

    5-6 Diapers (cloth diapers)

    Wipes and spray bottle

2 changes of clothes and an extra sweater (if you ziploc them you can squeeze the air out)

a quart sized ziploc full of different foods and snacks

    sippy cup

a quart sized ziploc bag full of little toys and books

and if i know she is going to sleep we stuff her blanket in the top.

We will add in suncscreenonce we spend more time out and a sunhat.. But we keep it simple.  I also have an emergency bag in our car with extra dipes, wipes, food, blnkets, clothes, etc...

  • I keep extra stuff in the car as well.  I have a basket in the van with formula, diapers, and another outfit for just in case.  That way I don't have to lug it around with us.

In the diaper bag I have one diaper, small thing of wipes, a bottle, his tube to feed him with, and his emergency kit in case his mic-key button comes out.  That I have to carry with me everywhere.  Then I just have my stuff like wallet, cell phone, chapstick, etc.

A changing pad, 3 or so diapers, a travel case of whipes, paci, change of clothes, tavel cup, clips-shes got a lot of hair, bib, and desitin if she is a little irratated. and maybe a few toys depeneding on where we are going. Not much, and may diaper bag is HUGE!

  • I just use a very small diaper bag. I usually keep a change of clothes, 4 diapers, and wipes, a couple toys, and a snack.

I have extras in the van but I dont carry with me when I go in places. We keep a blanket in the van and some toys and extra diapers.

  • depends on the trip .. usual errands i grab my tote bag that contains - diapers, wipes, change of clothes, snack cup and sippy cup. if we're out for a longer trip, i bring the diaper bag ..more diapers, wipes, snacks, thermos of milk, multiple sippy cups, blankets, change of clothes, mini first aid kit.

95% of the time, all we need is my tote bag

  • changing pad, 3-4 diapers, travel wipes dispenser, desitin, change of clothes, tylenol/motrin, a spoon, bib, snacks, and sippy cup.  If I'm just going somewhere for an hour or so, I just throw her sippy and some snacks in my purse.  I have backup diapers/wipes in the car.

  • I have the skip hop duo and LOVE it!  It is perfect size for us.

In it we have 4 diapers, wipes, hand sanitizer, cart/high chair cover (it folds up in a bag so it isn't huge), change of clothes, placemat, bib, sippy cup, snack, sippy cup strap, pacifer.  That's about it.  Sunscreen in the summer.

  • I have a Skip Hop Duo, and I don't think there is anyway I would be able to fit in enough stuff for two.

    My bag:

    diapers & wipes

baggie with diaper cream, lotion, tylenol

    extra clothes

    bib

    tissues

    dry snacks

a couple of books & small toys

at least 1 sippy cup, sometimes 2

  • Lately it is just some diapers and wipes, a snack and sippy. If we go out to eat it is a bib and some books or small toys to keep her entertained. I don't take much anymore.
  • 4-5 diapers

    wipes

first aid/medical bag (not very big)

    change of clothes

    snacks, sippy cup

disposable place mats (for eating out)

    diaper bags for changes

    a few toys

I could downsize but I like having everything I need with me. I've never understood leaving a bag in the car because A: sometimes we take DH's car and B: the last thing I want to do when I'm somewhere is run out to the car...LOL. Just wouldn't work for me. I'm also looking into a bigger tote/backpack for when LO #2 gets here. I've been looking into the Ju Ju Be bags. Some of them look like they're a nice size for 2.

  • Also, I have the Skip Hop Duo and I agree I don't think it is big enough for two. My big bag I use for travel is the JuJuBe Packabe. Love that bag.
  • I have a JuJuBe Packabe and I love it for two.

I carry two zippered pouches with diapers, wipes and dirty bags for each girl. A handful of extra diapers. Extra outfit for each. Snack tower and assorted extra snacks. Paci clip and a paci pod that attaches to my bag. Extra dirty bags. A handkerchief, burp cloth, extra hair bands, and a few mini-board books or small toys. Usually a sippy in each side pocket.

For me, I have chapstick, pen, my wallet and phone.

  • I carry a couple diapers, wipes, changing pad, a bib, two snack catchers with dry snacks, two water sippies, toddler utensils, hand sanitizer, and chapstick for me.

DD1 was potty-trained by the time DD2 was born, so I never needed to pack two sets of diapers. I have a Skip Hop Dash, and it wouldn't have been big enough. As it is, it gets jammed just packing a day's worth of diapers for DD2 plus pjs and sippies for both girls when my mom watches them once a week.

Ooooohhh....good to know. This is the one I've been looking at! Smile

  • From the PPs, I am thinking I don't have enough in my diaper bag!

    1 sippy cup

small container of dry snacks, or a small baggie of them

diaper cream, tylenol, orajel and hand sanitizer

    2-3 diapers

    small pkg of wipes

change of clothes (I used to only grab an extra shirt but then he peed on me once in Gymboree and I realized extra shorts were important)

I always have a box of wipes and several diapers in the car so I use that as a last resort.  I don't like carrying a huge, heavy bag so I'm down to essentials only.

  • so much different now then when he was little...lets see, ive got: books, toys, diapers, wipes, snacks, epi-pen, changing pad, hand wipes, hand sani, tic-tacs for me and my wallet. Sippy fits in the side pocket. All I will  have to add for James is an outfit and a bottle in the other side pocket! I have the Eleanor bag by Kalencom in the orange.

  • Diapers, wipes, an extra outfit, sippy cup, snacks, a few small toys, diaper rash cream.
  • I quit carrying a diaper bag when DD was 9 months old.  I throw 1 diaper, a travel pack of wipes, Benadryl and her epipen in my purse.  I also used to carry a sippy for her, but I don't anymore.  We take a water sippy in the car but leave it there and she gets a cup with a straw and a lid if we go out to eat.

I do have extra diapers and wipes in the car, but that's it.

  • I have the Kalencom Weekender Bag and it's huge!  Fantastic to store things in the car that you might need, but definitely not something you'd tote around with you on errands or anything.

I keep the following in there:

A partial roll of paper towels

    Diapers

    Wipes

    Plastic bags for dirty diapers

    Several snacks

    Sippy cup

    Bib

Fold up rubber mat for him to eat off

Check it out, it's worked perfectly for me.
