My husband and I do not have any family close to us that can babysit. We would like to be able to go out on dates once in a while. I was wondering if anybody has used this website and could tell me what they thought of the service.
Well I was on the babysitter side of Care.com and found 3 jobs that way. When I first moved here, before Riley, I couldn't find a job so I went there, filled out a profile and then just checked it every couple days for new "Babysitter Wanted" jobs. I always arranged meet ups at the public library so that way no one felt uncomfortable and the kids were able to come and play in the kids area while I talked with the adults.

I used it to find a nanny. I have mixed feelings. It's a good resource to get connected with people and find people looking for work as a nanny/baby-sitter.
The hard thing is that you still have to get to "know" the people. I find it's difficult to really judge the fit and personality of the individual from an interview. I also think it's different when you are looking for a baby-sitter and a nanny.
As a baby-sitter resource, care.com is great. Both of the women we hired would have made great baby-sitters. I wasn't as happy with them as nannies however. (( I work from home and am an admitted, type-A controller. I realize the problems were as much me and my standards as them. ))
I used Care.com this time last year when MH went back to work. I found a couple of good candidates, interviewed one and was going to hire her but then the mother of a former student offered to do it and I chose to go with her because I knew her a lot better.
We are in the same boat - no family around us and most of my friends are from work (so they work too). I thought Care.com was pretty good. Just be careful to find out how many other kids they watch. . . not all are certified and may have a lot of other kids.
We don't have family around either and this is how we found our babysitter. DH had to talk me into it but I'm glad he did. We interviewed two girls in public places and have used both of them. We pretty much just use one girl now regularly and have never had an issue, she's great! It's so nice to have someone available for date nights now.

For those of you ladies that did use the site and have had success did you join for just a month, do your interviews and then cancel your subscription? I was thinking of doint it this way, but don't know it that's the wrong way to go....

DH had signed up for 6 months I think, but we were looking for a nanny while I was pregnant (ended up using a neighbor for a few months and now a center). I think that would be a good way to do it though, we haven't had to look for anyone else since our initial use.

Thank you for asking this. We're looking for an occasional evening babysitter as well and this seemed like a good resource (a lot of seemingly good candidates in our area) but I didn't know much about it.
I haven't used it to find a babysitter, but I have used to to find a reliable in-home pet sitter. I would up finding an awesome woman that lives in my neighborhood that has watched our cats/house numerous times over the last two years. She now has a key to our house and knows the combo to our security system....not something we give out to just anyone! She had a background check posted, as well as numerous references.
We're moving in a few weeks to a new town, so I'll probably use it again to find a reliable sitter and likely another pet sitter. I'm a fan!

Definitely give it a try!

Good luck!

We have....we found an outstanding sitter here. I have also made appointments for people to come to the house and they havent called/showed up.
I think its like anything else- some good, some bad. You just have to be patient and screen tons of people till you find some you like
