PLEASE COLIC EXPERTS>>HELP!!!!!!!

So my three week old DS ate at 7 and has been wailing ever since. Is this colic, reflux or normal newborn behavior? Initially he was farting up a storm even though he takes Mylicon at every feed.

It is heartbreaking and exhausting. I doubt he could be hungry as he had been feeding regularly all day (4 oz ever four hours)

Re: PLEASE COLIC EXPERTS>>HELP!!!!!!!

  • Colic is defined as crying for 3 hours or more, 3 times a week for more then 3 weeks. A couple hours of crying in one night isn't colic.

If he is farting up a storm he could just be having some tummy problems. Try bicycling his legs and massaging his stomach. If you think he may be hungry there is no harm in offering him an ounce and see if he will take it.

  • If you are feeding him formula, he may need a more gentle formula. If you are breastfeeding, it could be something you ate. You did not specify so I do not know.

You should call your pediatrician and ask for advice. My fist was classified as colic when we found out 4 years later it was lactose intolerance! The doctor was so ready to chalk it up as colic when he did not do any thing to help the situation.

  • From about 3.5 weeks until about 6 weeks, DD screamed every night from 8pm - 1am or 2am.  It went away.  It's their witching hour.   It's likely NOT to be colic.  If it continues all day long, then I'd be concerned...

  • I highly recommend Happiest Baby on the Block! Seriously this method has almost eliminated DS "witching hours" and made his naps a little longer and he is finally sleeping 5-7 hours a night. We just rented the DVD from netflix and I made DH sit down with me to watch it. He loves the fact that he can actually calm DS down and feel like he is helping out. I love this method because its realistic and do able and does not involve any crying it out and you see instant results! Hang in there Mama!!

Also I wanted to add that at 3 weeks DS went through a major growth spurt and he was literally eating every hour. So its not impossible that he is hungry again. Offer him some food, if he is hungry he'll take it, if he isn't hungry he'll refuse and you move on to the next thing.
