2nd Trimester

Will it ever end...

Went to the Dr again today for these terrible headaches, I have had one for the last 4 days and just cant kick it...can't sleep either! They increased my dose of Fioricet and gave me Vicoden if I still couldn't get relief!!! Told me it was all safe for baby so hopefully I can get some relief. Heard the hb again today to was running between 160 and 170 they said...so baby is doing well! Good news is they are telling me that the headaches should decrease at about 20 weeks....I will be happy to hit that mile marker!! Hope everyone else is feeling well!!!

Re: Will it ever end...

  • My dr would no give me anything for mine and also told me that they would get better at 20 weeks.  This was with my DD.  They did not get better for me until 34 weeks.  Hope that yours get better soon.

  • I am having the same issues!!  I toss and turn all night then wake up in the morning with a headache that just doesn't go away.  I hope it will go away before twenty weeks...
  • Yuck, I'm sorry you're having headaches.  Mine definitely decreased by 18 weeks or so.  Going to the chiropractor definitely helped a lot too.  Good luck!
  • Definitely go to the chiropractor.  During pregnancy all the extra hormones cause all your muscles to relax and pinch nerves in your neck, thus causing headaches.  I had debilitating headaches during like my 7th week of pregnancy and couldn't take it anymore, went to see my chiro and didn't get one since!!  I would at least try it, you have nothing to lose and if they stop you'll think you were in heaven!!!

  • And even though they gave you vicodin to take I would be skeptical to take anything during pregnancy, there are too many unknowns out there....I'd try everything I could before taking anything as BIG as vicodin.  Good Luck!

  • Mine got better at 16 weeks if that makes you feel any better
  • Stupid question, but what time of day do you take your vitamins? I found that taking them certain times of the day gave me a raging headache, but I started taking them at a different time, and the headache stopped. I happened my last PG too.

I disagree. Dr.s usually use meds because they do not feel there is a significant risk.  My friend had a bad gallbladder during her pregnancy and had to take vicodin at the least. It is a tylenol based drug.  Although not taking meds may be your choice its sounds like she had tried everything and not sleeping and be crippled by headaches can be just as bad.  Stress and pain are not good for you pregnancy either.  Everything is an unknown because logically pregnant women won't test things but OB's jobs are trained to know what is safest.

As for the OP I hope it gets better and glad you Dr. is working with you.

  • Thanks so much to the PP...I was ensured that the dosage of vicoden was so low that there wasn't a risk to the baby which is my #1 concern. And it is a Tylentol based drug, so you know your facts :) I was told not to exceed 4000mg of acetaminaphen in a 24 hr period though because the Fioricet, the vicoden and obviously tylenol all have the same main ingredient. Thanks to Lindsaywillo also for your concern for our well being.

As an answer to some of the others, I have not tried massage therapy, would be a good thing to try. I did however go to the chiropractor this morning before my Dr appt (about 4 hrs before without relief) and this usually does the trick. Is is really good too and says he will adjust as many times as needed, jut to get me some relief!! I also had went about a week ago and felt ok for a couple days and then it came back full force.

For anyone wondering, I was ensured that if I took the meds I was prescribed every 4 hours for the rest of my pregnancy, then I may see some preoblems...mostly withdrawls in the infant...no deformaties. She is pretty confindent that I wont have to take them that long. She also gave me the vicoden as a last result if I cant sleep or function...not to take regularly. Right now the increased dose of Fioricet seems to be working so the Vicoden will sit on the shelf :) hopefully the muscles are relaxed, headache gone and I am rested in the morning!! Keep your fingers crossed for me :)

I really want to thank eveyone for their concern and comments....don't know what I would do with out my online support :)....Have a good night!!

Edit: Oh yeah, I take my prenatals just before bed with food...they have never made me sick. This is really the only time I can remeber to take them. lol
