preschooler games

I'm on the hunt for games like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Hasbro-41450-Candy-Land-Castle/dp/B000OKS774

Basically, it comes with 4 gingerbread men that have shapes, and you have to put the plastic shapes on the gingerbread men.  The cool part about it is that there is a lever that spits out the plastic shapes one at a time.  B loves it.  I went looking tonight for a game or two like it, and came up short.  I was looking at Meijer...  but basically for preschoolers, there are games like memory, candy land/chutes and ladders (board games), and Elefun (chase stuff around).  I'm looking for sorting games where you don't necessarily have to follow the directions and can still sort things.

Any other ideas?

  • What about this from Tupperware?  If you type in "sorting games" in Amazon, lots of stuff comes up that looks cute.

  • I want to get this one for DD.  They also have a puppy and frog version.

This isn't necessarily a game, but it might be the type of thing you're looking for.  DD has played with it elsewhere before and really liked it.  (They have a younger/simpler version, too.)

This isn't really a game, either, but it reminds me of the gingerbread men.  I've been thinking of getting one of the girl versions, but the magnetic shoes make me nervous around DS.  I'm trying to decide if it would still be fun without the shoes.

Can you tell I have a weird thing for Melissa and Doug toys?

ETA:  Sorry, I don't know why they weren't clicky the first time.

  • DS got a game called Pop Goes Froggio for his bday.  He loves it, its a memory type game.  The best part is it does not work on batteries!!!  Basically you lay out the lillipads (cards) facedown, spin a little thing on the main part and then whatever picture it lands on you go try to find a card with that pic on it, then go back at stomp on the stomper part and the frog goes flying in the air and the objective is to catch the frog before it lands (which rarely happens).  Excuse all those technical terms..lol  Anyways, he likes playing with the frog launcher part the most, he likes getting a basket and trying to get the frog to land in the basket!
  • Oh, and totally not a matching/pattern/overly educational game, but both of my kids love Whac-a-Mole.
  • We bought the Richard Scarry game for Alex but aren't giving it to him until Easter.

  • Okay, last idea.  DD is really into "trail mix."  Don't ask me how she came up with it.  She basically mixes all the pieces from all her toys together into a "trail mix" and then has to divide them all back up to clean them up.  Actually, I end up doing most of the dividing/cleaning, but we're working on that...

LOL!  DS got that game for his bday and he loves it!

DS also has the M&D pizza.  While not a game, it teaches sorting with all the different toppings.

  • Ellie loves Hi Ho Cherrio, and she pretty much never plays it correctly. But there are four colors now instead of just red cherries, so she does lots of sorting.

My mom has this game as well and she loves it. It also involves sorting.

  • We have Lucky Ducks which is like Candy land Bingo with the shape sorting, but I think it's more difficult because there aren't any assigned spaces to put the ducks.  I have my kids each take a duck out of the pond one at a time and then put him with his "family" shape.  Not exactly the way it's supposed to be played, but that way everyone gets to do something and they all "win".

We also really love Elefun and Eric Carle's Head to Toe game.  (No sorting for those though.)

I am going to have to get more of the one suggested - lots of fun ideas!
