Dizzy/Sick during a workout?

Last night I was working out to my pregnancy yoga DVD and all of a sudden got dizzy and fainted. When I got up I drank some water and tried to relax but got really sick and threw up, twice. Has anyone else experienced this? This is the 2nd time I have fainted during a workout.

  • Were you doing more than you normally do during your routine??  Did you notice a significant drop in your blood pressure?? More than likely you were probably just dehydrated.  If it were me I would call the dr and let them know what happend they could give you a better insite to what happened. Feel Better!

  • No, I keep doing the same DVD and it's a pregnancy one so it's not very hard. I am going to guess probably dehyrdation. I need to remember to drink more water at work. I get so busy I forget to take care of myself :(. I will ask the Dr. about it at my next visit. Until then, I think I will only do 1 section of the DVD at a time.

  • You're over doing it. And if this is the second time you have fainted, you need to change the workout. It may be that your bp is low right now and the extra stress of the workout shuts you down. Try some different kinds of exercise. Pay attention to what you were doing when you fainted and avoid those things.

Also, let your OB know that you've fainted twice now when exercising - she may have some suggestions about substitutions or solutions to keep it from happening.

Yeah, what you described sounded exactly like dehydration, but I'd also maybe stop by a pharmacy to check your BP.

  • Listen to your body - fainting/vomiting from a workout is a sign that you're doing something you shouldn't be doing.  I would call the doc and not do the workout until the doctor clears you to do it.

  • just adding my two cents...could there have been a semi-inverted pose that you were doing? something with your head below your heart? they tell all preggie women not to do these kinds of poses in the first trimester because it can make you sick. maybe you're still sensitive to it?

i agree with pp, i'd call your ob/mw and talk about it. if you think you're not getting enough water, you need to put yourself (and baby) first at work and drink. i can really tell now when i've had enough and when i haven't.

    take care of yourself mama!
