Do you use your changing table a lot? Also, is it a stand alone changing table, or is it built into a dresser?
For some reason, I rarely used it. It is a stand alone, I wasn't even going to have one but my friend gave me hers. I think we don't use it much because we are a 2-story house and we're rarely upstairs during the day. We have a play area with foam floors and I have a changing pad downstairs.
I think I'm going to get rid of our changing table since it is a dumping ground for clean laundry Just curious if you use yours a whole lot either.
Re: Changing table
In our last house we used it a lot - we changed the kids on it until they were 10/11 months probably and then just changed them on the floor. But - we had it out in the living/dining area, not in a bedroom.
Now - it's upstairs in Leah's room and hasn't been used in forever.
We rarely spend time upstairs, actually. Just around tubby time...at nap/bedtime we just take them up and plop them in their cribs.
Ours is a dresser that has the changing pad on top, you can take off the little guards on the top when your done using the changing table part.
We use ours for 99% of diaper changes. We live in a ranch, so it's no big deal to walk to the back of the house. If I try and change him on the floor or bed, he knows he can roll and escape. But when he's on his changing table he knows he's up high, so he (usually) stays pretty still.
I just recently started getting him dressed standing on the floor because I'm trying to teach him to get himself dressed, or at least the idea of it.
Yes. It is part of a dresser. However, there is also a hutch attached so we only used it until Chelsea could reach the bottom shelf with her feet while she was laying on the table part. So without the hutch we would have used it much longer. We spend a large part of our day on the main floor of the house (we live in a Ranch) so I definitely use it a lot. Molly is a lot taller than Chelsea was so I think we might not get as much use out of it this time around.
If I am downstairs (the basement), I have a little portable changing kit with a changing pad, diapers, wipes and cream in it.
Mine is part of a dresser. With my first, we were living in a ranch then apartment until he was potty trained. I used it for every diaper.
With this little one, it's upstairs. I use it if we happen to be upstairs or if it seems like it's going to be messy and require a change of clothes. Otherwise, we change on a blanket on the living room floor.
Mine is a stand alone and I use it for every change. I have a one level apartment, so it makes it easy. If I had a two level house and the bedroom was upstairs, I probably would just buy one of these (which I currently have on the changing table) and use it on the floor or couch:

We don't have a separate changing table we just put the contoured changing pad thingy ontop of her dresser. We too live in a 2 story house and all bedrooms are upstairs, but she does not do well with diaper changes on floors, couches, etc. She squirms way too much, flips herself onto her tummy and tries to run away hahahah. So we always bring her up to change her "changing" table in her room. She is much more cooperative.
Only downside to this that we've noticed so far is the straps that come on the changing pad to allow you to buckle them in if needed have scratched the crap out of the top of her dresser because we had them tucked underneath it because we never use them.
So we are pretty upset about that, but that was kind of our stupidity and a lesson learned. With our next baby I think we'll just cut those off maybe to avoid that.
Speaking of lessons learned....for all you pg people.
Don't buy a slightly cheaper changing pad that is stitched. Buy one that is completely waterproof. Bc at some point your baby will pee on the pad. And in your sleep deprived state, you will wipe it up, but not realize some has soaked in.
This totally happened to us too and I was P!SSED! We spent a good penny on her furniture and about a few weeks after she was born, I moved the pad to clean and found her dresser completely ruined. I almost cried I was so upset. I figure if we have #2, we'll just use that dresser again so we don't risk ruining another one. I wasn't happy though!
