I have a grand plan to hand make play food for W, like pizza, breakfast foods etc, using felts and cloth. I'm a below average sewer so couldn't make intricate stuff. Anybody done this? Ideas where to start? I've googled stuff I like, but wondered if there was a good site/ blog to look at.

Re: crafty types please come in
When my etsy store was up and running, I sold kits to make your own felt food. Once you make one item, its pretty easy to figure out everything else.
Supplies you will need...
Felt
Polyfill
Embroidery floss
Needle
With the felt you have a few choices... Ecospun, which is made from recycled plastic bottles or wool. I like ecospun from the bolt rather then the sheets you see in the craft section. It seems thicker, and easier to sew. The eco spun is also nice if your little one likes to put everything in their mouth - it won't "felt" up when wet like wool will. Wool feels so much better though. Ella's rose hair clippy she was wearing yesterday is one I made from wool felt. It is more expensive. Ben Franklin sells wool felt by the sheet in many colors ( I just picked up a ton, since I can't find it by me in MI), at $3.99 a sheet.
With the Polyfill - a little goes a long way, so you don"t need a ton of it.
With the floss, you are going to work with 2 or 3 strands at a time.
Stitches you should know/learn are blanket stitch, whip stitch, and running/basting stitich. Other stitches that are helpful are french knots and ladder stitch.
A great knot tying tutorial is here...

Thanks! I think I'm going to start with strawberries. Looks fairly doable with my skills and they are really cute.
