Babies: 6 - 9 Months

What do you do with sick baby?

My lo was sick a few months ago, runny nose and coughing. She didn't have a fever so my  nurse said to just use the saline and suction and also use the steam from a shower. Well she has the same symptoms and I feel useless in helping her as she coughs and cries. Is there anything else you did in a similar situation? Tia

  • have you taken her back in to the dr? It could be something different or maybe they'll have more advice on how you can help her. Maybe also try a cool mist humidifier and elevate the head of her bed.

  • Humidifier where she sleeps. That will help with the congestion.

We do this as well. I would consider taking her back to the doctor too. My DD had cold symptoms all weekend, she went to the Dr. Monday night after being sent home from daycare and sure enough she had an ear infection.

  • I know some people strap DC into their car seat so they can sleep elevated..

I still use my rock & play when DS is sick since it's elevated and helps him sleep MUCH better during those times

  • What kind of cough does she have? Is it a barky cough (croup like) and wheezing or is it just a regular cough like you would get with a cold?  My DD had it bad for a few weeks and then it got better.  It does take some time for them to run it's course just like with us.  There's not much you can do except what they told you to do.  If you think it's serious by all means, call your PEDI but I don't call the dr. for every sniffle, cough.
  • I would strongly suggest that if you feel it is something more than just a common cold take her in. DS2 got a cough that wasn't bad at all but he was also congested...I took him to the urgent care they said it was a sinus infection, I knew it was more...we ended up seeing 2 dr's before one tested for RSV...which came back positive. When he got Salmonella while recovering from RSV and had a high fever the dr told me he was fine and sent me home...we had to take him back the next day because he stopped eating and peeing and had the same dr (who I ended up chewing out) they admitted him and we found out he had the Salmonella. I'm not trying to worry you but my point is to go with your gut...you know your child better than anyone else and sometime if you now it's more than a simple cough you have to push the issue. I hope she is better soon and you find ways that make her feel better.
  • Thank you guys. I checked her temp again and it went up so I called my on call nurse. She gave me a few suggestions for the mean time and I will be going to the Dr. tomorrow.

GL I hope they figure it out and it's nothing too serious! Let us know!

  • We use Johnson and Johnson vapor bath and it works wonders.
