DS can undo his diapers :(

Our entire stash consists of velcro closure BGs.  DS greeted us 2 days in a row, standing in his crib w/o pants or diaper.  Poo was smeared all over his crib the 1st time.  On the 2nd occassion, Daddy caught him peeing on his mattress & through the crib bars onto the carpet.

It's funny in retrospect, but this is not the way to start our day.

Any suggestions on containing our Houdini?

  • pants?  lol

I had the same problem with DS#1.  I converted all his diapers to snaps and kept pants on him if I could....oh and I put them on him backwards for awhile.  lol :P

ETA:  Oops, I see that he takes his pants off too???  :/  I'm sorry...but I can't help with that part...It took DS#1 a long time to figure out how to get his pants off!

  • Here's our super-fix: Get a 1.5"-wide strip of scratchy Velcro, cut to a size that will extend over the soft Velcro backs of both tabs, and apply whenever you want!  That has worked wonders for my DD and keeps me from having to replace worn-out Velcro.  GL!

  • Mine started doing this at 7 months. Only thing I found works is a wool cover on top of the velcro pockets. I'm going to have to destash and try and convince daycare to attempt snaps  :(

She doesn't just rip off that velcro too?

  • What about a onesie?  That's the only way I can keep a shirt on my little man.

Ds did this for a while. I just kept him in a one piece.

Not yet, don't give her any ideas!  It seems to grip SUPER strong with all of that Velcro and I don't think she has the dexterity/angle/finger strength to do that.

I'm going to try this!   Anything to avoid scrubbing down the crib, blankets, & floor again!

  • DD peed on the floor twice today because she undid her BG through her jammies!  One was Velcro, the other was snap!  At least she can't undo a snappi yet and hasn't taken off the cover while in a onesie.
  • My 20 month old does this too.  Yesterday he learned he can unsnap his diaper through his clothes. I have no idea what we'll do now!  Maybe putting the diaper on backwards for awhile would do the trick....
  • We use packing tape over the aplix (no, really, not kidding).  We tried the diaper on backwards, that worked for a day.  I have heard of people putting the sleeper on backwards too (the sleeper used to work for us too until she figured out the zipper).

On a side note, not only does DD take over her diaper, she took off DS's diaper the other day!

I wish this worked for us! She undoes the diaper from the outside by grabbing the velcro through the fabric of her onesie or jammies so the diaper is off but floating around inside her jammies. I hear "rrrrrrip!" and my heart just sinks, haha.
