2nd Trimester

help!!

this is my first pregnancy. the last time i had my preiod was jan 11 but when i went for an ultrasound on saturday they told me i would be 12 weeks on the 27th she said the baby was probably conceived on the 15/16 of jan. when i told her i was on my period those days she said then it might have been the 25/26 of jan instead isnt there something to know exactly when the baby was conceieved and exactly how many weeks the baby is? how are they going to know the baby is healthy and progressing right if they don't know how many weeks it is?! the bump says i'm 11 weeks. i'm so confused!

also if i'm 12 or 11 weeks shouldn't the nausea be going away because it's kinda getting worse! I've been sick pretty much since i found out i was pregnant & it wont go away!

Re: help!!

  • Well, you can request a dating ultrasound, but those are usually more accurate in the first few weeks. Without charting, no one can tell you exactly when you conceived. Its possible that you ovulated early and therefore could have gotten pregnant towards the end of your bleeding.

  • Well, did you start your period on on Jan. 11? I know when I went for my first u/s I didnt know my last missed period and the u/s technician gave me one EDD and then the doctor met with me and gave me an earlier EDD (just by a couple days).

And some women have ms for longer than the 1st trimester- probably something you dont want to hear!

  • You may be a few days off and my ob told me that a few days doesn't really make a difference because it is very unlikely your baby really will come on due date... At my first u/s the baby measured right where it should have week wise...But at my second u/s the baby measured a week ahead of what they said I was..My doctor said its normal baby grow on their own terms..As for nausea mine didnt go away till 15 weeks sorry:(
  • i did, the ultrasound on Saturday was a dating ultrasound. what do you mean without charting??

This, though she's likely too late for a dating u/s.  As for m/s, mine was worst around 10-12 weeks.  It finally, mostly, went away around 16-17 weeks.  It still comes back to visit though.

    BFP#1 4/17/10...EDD 1/6/11...M/C 5/28/10 BFP#2 11/19/10...EDD 8/4/11 Squeaker born 7/30.
  • the u/s tech said that she said 12 weeks according to the size of the baby which is almost two inches.

  • According to my last period I'm due June 26th, according to the ultrasound tech I'm due July 5th, and according to my doctor I'm due July 9th. I'm not too concerned. I'm going by the latest date knowing there's a very real possibility he'll come a week or two early. A week or two difference isn't very much to worry about.

Charting is watching your body for signs of fertility/ovulation, and recording it on a chart. EDDs are based off an "average" cycle length of 28 days with ovulation occurring on cycle day 14. Very few people actually follow this exactly, so that's why if you don't chart, your EDD is just a wild guess. The ultrasound is more accurate.

I suggest you read Taking Charge of Your Fertility before you have sex again. Its like an Ovary Owners Manual. Your lack of knowledge about your own reproductive system is alarming to me.

  • Don't worry about not knowing what charting is.  I didn't really know much about it till my friend was trying to conceive and I'm a nurse that had to take a whole semester course about the whole shabang.  I wasn't charting so the only reason I know the date we conceived is because we live with my parents and have a toddler (long relocation story).  They went out of town with DD for the afternoon and a few weeks later I got a BFP (tmi).  Had we been "alone" more often it would have been just a guess for us as well.  A week won't make a big difference on the size of the baby and its progress so I would just go by what they are saying as an EDD and not worry too much about it.  As for the morning sickness I am still on anti nausea meds and was the whole pregnancy with my first :(  I hope that doesn't happen to you though :)
