If my DS liked his carseat, I would have bought him a seat on a couple of the trips we've been on, but alas, him screaming in the seat would be a bigger deal than holding him on our laps.
We're flying in 2 weeks, and I'm going to wear the moby and have him in our laps. I don't want to pay any extra to have his carseat on a 3rd seat on the plane.
A carseat is definitely the safest place for a baby on a plane, However, as others have said it depends on how LO does in the carseat. If you pay for the seat, baby must be strapped in to the seat for takeoff and landing (even if he/she is crying).
I'm flying with DD next month and am still debating the carseat or lap child (it will be on a business trip so I won't get my ticket for a few more weeks and if I get her a seat I will have to pay for it). If I choose to do lap child I will probably take my baby bjorn. You can't use any type of sling, backpack carrier, etc. during takeoff or landing (FAA requirement), but it would be helpful during the main portion of flight (especially if I have to go to the bathroom).
We flew with our little guy when he was 5 weeks old. I had him in my moby wrap but Federal Law prohibits having a baby actually attached to you. They made me take him out so I just held him the whole time (3 hours). Holding him was find because he slept the whole time. I would have just brought a pillow or larger blanket to help support your arms! Goodluck! Also our Pedi suggested to have him suck on a pacifier during take off and landing to avoid his ears popping! Goodluck!
Re: traveling with baby
Depends - does he like his carseat?
