TTC after 35

delaying IVF by a month it looks like

So, arrgh, this is both good and bad.  We're supposed to do IVF starting in mid-April with my next cycle.  BUT that time period is already chaotic -- DH may be able to be with me and may not, I already had to cancel one work thing that was out of town. And then, just today, I got an invite for an international job opportunity, but I have to be able to go interview in Europe May 4-6, which is right when I'll be doing stims if we go forward.  So, checked with RE and she said best to delay until June and, as she put it, "give the cycle the attention it deserves" which she is definitely right about.  I'm seeing if I can move the job interview regardless (earlier would be better for other reasons too), but in a way I'm sort of relieved that DH and I will get two more shots at conceiving naturally and, if we go for it in June, he's with me for the entire time.  Then of course there's the prospect of a job...in Europe....(but they'd have to find something for DH too, and that is likely to not be possible; still, it's a fun fantasy).

  • I'm aiming for June as well for IVF. We can be cycle buddies. Good luck with the job interview. Europe for a job interview-- how exotic!!   Of course we will both get PG naturally in the interim... It's just good to have a plan, haha!

  • Give the IVF the attention it deserves is all well and good but I think I would have burst into tears right then and there if she had said it to me!  Juggling all of this with work is very difficult.  I just survived a huge lay off and now I have to ask for time off.  It's awkward at best and actually scary.  Good luck and take care!  -Pix

IVF #2: 3 great embies put in on Easter Sunday = BFN. Hoping for another chance at IVF in July. TTC is NOT for wimps. http://www.fertilityfriend.com/ticker/2fab90/ttc.png

  • Europe!  Wow!  That sounds like an amazing opportunity.  I am not on the IVF track, but from everything I've heard about it, I absolutely understand what your RE said.  And it sounds like you are ok with it, even if not exactly thrilled with it.  Here's hoping that one of these natural cycles are it for you. :)

  • At least you have a cool distraction and good reason to delay IVF.  Hoping that you get PG on your own, and never need to go there.  And, if that happens, please don't forget to share...as we're all hoping the same happens for us.  Job in Europe sounds like an interesting distraction.....maybe there's a bigger plan for you that you just don't know of yet?

  • Love that the bonus to a June cycle is that DH gets to be with you the entire time. Good luck in your job interviews!

  • I think the delay is really the right thing for me, especially because as soon as the RE said it, I felt super relieved, and NOT because of the job thing, so it must have been what I wanted all along.  I think I was really stressed thinking about what if the cycle is cancelled either because my TSH is still too high, or if I don't respond well enough and we have to do IUI, and DH isn't here, so we have to use one of our last frozen vials, and also I don't have him here for moral support, office visits, etc.  I also have SO MUCH going on in April-May for work in general, outside of the trip to Europe.  And if we're only going to do IVF once...well, really, it should be the calmest cycle possible, which it really can be in June.  I feel really ok about this.  Plus, I'm not unhappy about getting 2 more chances to go for it naturally rather than just one, delay or no delay.

Thanks for the responses and support, everyone!

  • Mine is now delayed a month too, so it looks like we're on similar timelines.  I have to go on BC for a cycle, and get tested on day 3 of the BC cycle.  On day 3 I was sitting on a beach in the Dominican Republic drinking mojitos. Not that I'm complaining!  So, I'll start the BC at the end of my current cycle toward the end of April, and most likely the injectables mid-late May. At first I was bummed, but this schedule actually works a lot better for me at work.  And, this gives us one more shot of trying on our own.
