Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Almost 11 mo suddenly not eating/napping &...on his way to getting thrown out of DC!

This week suddenly DS isnt taking any bottles, food or napping for more than 20 mins at DC. He eats fine when he gets home, in fact he eats a lot when we get home and also he's sleeping 8-9 hrs a night.

I dont know what the problem is, he's already got 6 teeth and never has been this way before. Today at DC (its a small home DC) my DCP told me its really disruptive to the rest of the kids there and waking them all up/preventing them from napping and that if this doesnt pass soon, she doesnt know if him coming to DC will work any more. We cant afford for me to be a SAHM or cut down to PT (as is he is only there 3 days/wk.) I am so stressed I dont know what to do. I made an appt w/Pedi for tomorrow...hopefully I'll feel better after. TIA

  • How strange. Is he acting fussy or tired from not sleeping during the day? The only thing I can think of is maybe he's coming up to a milestone..is he getting ready to walk or something along those lines? Are you sure he isn't getting his one year molars? DS's are starting to come in and last week he wasn't sleeping as good as he normally does (getting up at 5am and napping a whole lot less) but now he's back to a normal schedule..

  • He can stand for a few seconds at a time, and walks when we hold his hands but hasnt walked yet. Today he did stand for about 15 seconds and tried to take a step so maybe that is it. My co worker suggested maybe its the molars also. I tried looking but he is in a real cranky mood today and wont let me. It sort of feels like there are bumps on the lower jaws (didnt get to check the uppers). I gave some tylenol incase but I dont know if the bumps are just the bone or teeth since nothing is poking through.

  • Was there a change in the daycare environment? We had an unfortunate situation similar to this where we got booted because my DCP wasn't providing proper care for my baby. He was 4 months old, and had been on a fantastic schedule with me for sleeping and eating.

Well she had a very rigid daycare schedule, plus she kept saying i fed him too much so she wouldn't feed him the right amound. So he cried all day, got overtired and was hungry. Then she made me feel terrible because he kept the others from napping. It lasted all of a week. We have not had any problems with anyone else who has watched him since then, he's like the dream kid.

So, maybe its not necessaily your kid, but something else. Just something to keep in mind.

  • She does keep him on a feeding/nap schedule & its been working since we started going in July when he was 3 months old. Prior to DC I was doing on-demand feeding/naps.
I try to keep him on roughly the same schedule (which isnt hard because he seems to have been fine with it thus far). Tomorrow I'll be home w/him so I can see for myself if he isnt taking a bottle or napping at regular times for me as well.

Sorry you had issues w/ your DC. Only a week? She didnt really give him time to acclimate. I guess its better to find out after a week that she isnt right for you. It did take DS awhile to get "good" at going down for naps w/her but she never gave up.
