Anyone who does/has tried BS/ACV rinse for hair

*repost from eco-fam*Is there anything I can use besides baking soda?!? It's just not a good mix with my already dry hair. Also, the most frustrating thing is that I can NEVER get all the BS out, which makes it look like I have a bad case of dandruff. I have tried everything from going reaaaally long between washes, to using the smallest amount of baking soda possible. Nothing is working. I have been "poo free" for a month now, and really don't want to go back... does anyone know something else I can try? Thanks!!

  • I'm not exactly sure what you are talking about. Why would you wash your hair with poo?  Care to explain a bit?

  • I have heard some use arrowroot powder which is not at drying as baking soda. I think organic apple cider vinegar might be your best bet. Check out this website: www.nomoredirtylooks.com

They have had several posts about shampoo and the like - love that site. Here is my 'dirty' secret I took the no soap challenge and have been mostly soap free since January.

I have been shampoo-free (called poo-free) for 6 years. I used to to strictly BS followed by a ACV rinse, but now I mostly wash my scalp with thin conditioner & then leave a thicker conditioner on for a few minutes. I still use BS about every 2-3 weeks & do the conditioner stuff every 3-5 days. What is your process for the scalp massage with BS? I find if I use too much, more than a tbsp or 2, or if I don't mix it with enough water before adding it to my hair, that it's hard to rinse out. Mix it with water in a cup really well before you apply it. Hope that helps.

AH, this makes more sense. Thanks for posting.

  • Thanks everyone for your responses! I have been using less than 1 tablespoon (more like a pinch) of bs, and at least 1 cup water mixed with it. I even tried adding honey to the mixture... for some reason the bs just stays in my hair forever :( I am considering pushing through the greasiness to see if it's a detox and maybe I can be lucky enough to do water/massage only? I just really want this to work. If that doesn't work I think I will try the conditioner only as suggested. Thanks again for your thoughts/responses, and congrats to those of you makin it work :)

  • I have been doing this since last summer and I'm a total convert! My hair is more of the fine, oily type, though. I've found that pre-mixing in squeeze bottles works best for me. And less is more when it comes to the baking soda/water ratio. I would say I don't use any more than 1:10 baking soda to water. I just shake the bottle before I squirt some on my head and it's rarely ever gritty. I let it sit while I do my other showering, then I rinse well with water, then with diluted ACV in another squeeze bottle, then with hot water again.

My hair has so much more body now. Whereas before I started, I HAD to shampoo every 24 hours on the dot or I looked like a greaseball, now I only do the BS/ACV every other day and hot water in between.
