It's not easy being green....

So the last couple of days I ventured over to the eco-friendly family page. I breastfeed, we're cloth diapering, we recycle, grow a garden, I thought maybe I was on the edge of being "green."

I spent a bit poking around over there and they're talking about giving up shampoo.  I gotta give those gals credit: I an nowhere near that eco-friendly! LOL

Re: It's not easy being green....

  • I hang out regularly on the EFF board and I have learned a lot from the more green ladies, but I think everyone will admit to having their non-EFF vices.  You sound pretty green to me, so stick around!

  • Last time I ventured over there they where talking about Bar shampoo. I'm pretty green as well, and I have never heard of that, or even seen that.

  • What are they using to clean their hair without shampoo? That seems weird to me.

Oooh, I recently heard about that. I totally forgot til you mentioned it. This guy I work with told me he uses it and loves it.  It's like a bar of soap, but for your hair.  I guess it cuts out the plastic waste of using a bottle.

I'll have to look for it the next time Iam at Whole Foods or the Sunflower market. I'll be interested to try it once my shampoo runs out. Do they make bar conditioner to?

  • As a sustainable development major I get so frustrated with "green" stuff sometimes. I also get frustrated with the focus being on the individual instead of the systemic problems we have as a nation and culture. (must not rant, must not rant)

Not sure about conditioner.  I don't see why not though.  This guy gets it from a place called Lush...they have a website: www.lush.com

Lush products are AMAZING.  If you live in a larger city, there might be a Lush store at your mall where you can test and smell all of the products.

Amen. I draw the line with "Mama Cloth" or "Family Cloth" wipes instead of TP. Although I guess if I threw them right in the diaper pail with baby's things....nope, still no

  • We use reusable wipes on ds, but I don't think I could use them myself.  I've considered buying a diva cup (for whenever my period shows up again), but I'm not super green either.  I don't compost, I no longer take the bus to work (b/c of daycare), I still use shampoo, etc.  And as much as I've tried, I still use paper towels sometimes.

I LOVE LUSH!!!  There is one in San Fran I go to every now and then.  I have bought their bubble baths, fizzies and face masks.  They have homemade soaps that look amazing.  I am not sure I would buy conditioner there?  Never thought of that.
