Breastfeeding

Help!

My LO was eating every 2-2 1/2 hours on average.  Then last week. he began eating more often and more at a time.  I figured he was just going through his 3-week growth spurt.  This last weekend he went back to normal, 2- 2 1/2 hours and 3ish at night.  Now, the last two days he doesn't seem satisfied after eating.  He is wanting to eat every 1 1/2 hours almost and maybe sooner, I just try to hold him off a bit.  Should I continue to feed him when he is hungry?  Could something else be wrong that I'm missing?  Thanks for any input!

Re: Help!

  • I was told by my doctor to let my baby whenever she wanted.

  • I would still feed whenever hungry.  I still do that, and sometimes we get feedings every hour on random days or nights.  One thing that seems to determine how often DD wants food is how awake she is during the day.  The more she's awake, the more she wants food, ect... or at least a comfort suckle and a snack.

  • I feed whenever DS is hungry. Sometimes it's every hour, sometimes it's every 2-3 hours. It just depends. He has no real schedule. The only schedule he has is at night, it's consistently every 4 hours which is great!

I'm back at work this week so I'm pumping which has kind of been difficult since he eats so much. I try to pump every two hours to keep my supply up. So far so good. Yesterday I had to leave work early because he went through all the milk I pumped. Hopefully this won't happen too often.
