Potty training???

Matty has been showing a lot of interest in the bathroom and "po po".  Today at Gymboree he kept pointing to the bathroom and saying "po po" and signing diaper. He hadn't gone in his diaper so I didn't know what to do.

When he says "po po" should we put him on a potty?

Re: Potty training???

  • We started putting Ellie on the potty when she started showing interest, which was around 18 months.  I would let her come to the bathroom with me and she was pretty interested in watch what I was doing.  So we got her a little potty chair and she would sit on it whenever wanted to.  I also let her sit up on the big potty when she asked;  nothing ever happened but I figured it was good for her to get used to doing it and I thought, hey, what if I get lucky and she actually goes one of these times?  It didn't work out that way and she actually ended up finally getting potty trained a few weeks ago, just before turning 3.  But I think it is good to encourage their interest whenever possible.

  • I  would. As soon as M starts to let me know before he goes I'm putting him on the pot.
  • We got T a potty after our first Code Brown.  The next time she was making the poo poo face in the tub I grabbed her and put her on it and she went in the potty.  She was a little freaked out at me yanking her out of the tub but was very happy when I clapped for her going poo poo in the potty.  Since then we haven't pushed it but I'm happy we have it on hand for when she does express interest or in any future "emergent" situations!

  • Why not?  Maybe it'll help!

  • We now have 3 pottys. I keep one in the living room, one in the kitchen & I have the potty ring in bathroom. She has only been successful going on her own, actually sitting before she peed like twice. But I like her to go diaper free for about an hour in the morning (after she's lain in pee all night) & one in the evening. So having the pottys at opposite sides of the house gives me a better chance to sit her on it when I see a cue. I can usually tell if she's gonna poo & am pretty good at getting her to the potty. But peeing is tough. She totally knows she has to go because if she runs to pee under the table or on her tower all the time, she must know its coming. She is very stubborn, but what am I gonna do? I jus keep hoping one day she'll just start doing it. I wonder if there is some kind of kids cartoon that could get her motivated.

Yeah! What's the worst that could happen?

I so envious. When I ask Ada if she wants to sit on the potty she gets up and carries the plastic insert away to put her blocks in it or to wear it on her head like a hat. No interest in potty training yet.

  • Why not, since he is showing his interest.
