2nd Trimester

gwenyth or gwendolyn?

okay, so hubby has finally agreed to the name "gwen" if we end up having a little girl. Only problem is, right now he likes the full name gwenyth, and I prefer gwendolyn. I am trying to come to terms to agreeing with him since after all, she probably will go by gwen, but im having a hard time because I like gwendolyn so much better than gwenyth. can I get some opinions? (even if you guys dont like the name gwen)

Re: gwenyth or gwendolyn?

  • I personally like Gwenyth. Thats just MO, ;] Gwendolyn kinda reminds me of an old lady. I am not quite sure why. Good luck deciding! ;]

  • I think chances are, I will cave and go with Gwenyth, because its like pulling teeth to get him to agree on names I like, so atleast we can both agree on Gwen. The birth certificate name isnt of much concern, a lot of people never use it unless the child is in trouble, legal documents, or to sign them up for school. my SIL's babies "birth certificate" name is elaina and they have called her ellie since day 1. I do want my child to know their full name though, it would suck to go half your life not knowing you have a full name

  • I prefer gwyneth. First, because it's a real name, unlike Gwenyth. Second, Gwendolyn sounds a little too knights-of-the-round-table to me.
  • Gwendolyn! I LOVE this name! My girlfriend's daughters name is Gwendolyn except its spelled Gwendalyn and for short they call her Gwenna or Gwennie LOL It's very cute

I prefer Gwyneth to Gwendolyn as well, and prefer the spelling with "y" first rather than the spelling you included, because that's how I'm familiar with the name due to the actress. I don't personally know whether Gwenyth is a real spelling though, just prefer Gwyneth.

  • These are both on our list if we have a girl. I like Gwendolyn and DH likes Gwenyth. I think If I had to decide today I would go with Guinevere actually. I would call her Gwen. They are both great names!
