Overfeeding at Daycare

Basically, I know that they are overfeeding my LO at daycare, my backup bottle of formula *just in case* has become a regular occurence. In about 9-10 hours she is eating15-16 oz of BM and 4 oz of formula.

Question is though she is such a little peanut (12.5 lbs 10th % for weight) is this a bad thing?

Re: Overfeeding at Daycare

  • That is definitely overfeeding.  My DD gets about 12oz of BM in 9-10 hrs.  I would stop sending the backup bottle.

  • My DD is just a week older and a little less than a pound more than yours and she takes 2 4oz bottles at daycare plus I nurse her on my lunch break.  I was sending 6oz bottles at first and then talked to some other moms and found out that their babies were still only taking 4oz.  I decided to send 4oz bottles to see how it went and they said she did great! I have read that babies will eat whatever you put in their bottles so it's easy to overfeed them.  I think almost 20oz for 9-10 hours is a lot!

Also, maybe your LO is a snacker.  Could they try giving an ounce snack in between her 4oz bottles?  That would put her at about 14-15oz if she took 3 4oz bottles plus 2 'snack' bottles.
