Hi all! I got to hear/see my babies heartbeat today at 10 weeks 5 days and it was a healthy 168 bpm! I have heard high heartbeat=girl according to the old wives tale, but all my other "old wives tale" signs are leading to boy. what is everyone elses experience with the heartbeat, did the majority of you find this true?
Re: heartbeat-correlation to old wives tale
totally untrue. DD's heartbeat was solid high 150's. this little one (which is also a girl) was hitting around 138 at our last appt. the nurse said that low heart beats could mean a boy, but we found out last week it's a girl. so i wouldn't assume anything based on heart rates.
My baby's HR has been in the 160's every appointment, and he is a little boy... so the old wive's tale didn't hold true for us.
OWT
Heart rate changes all the time depending on how active the baby is. A penis doesn't make it any different than a vagina.
Nope! Our little guys heartbeat started at 155, then went up on subsequent visits and is back in the 150s range.
I heard somewhere (don't remember if it was our doctor or my husband's aunt who is a nurse) but the majority of babies start with a higher heartbeat. It's only after 20 weeks when the heartbeat either begins to drop back down or stabilizes. Apparently this is when the old wives tale comes more into play.
OP, didn't you ask a similar question on second tri last week? I remember because at the time I also thought you were the one posting constantly about miscarrying on First tri.
EDIT: And now I see you are posting the exact same questions on first and second tri, including this post and your post about names.
Oh, those dang wives tales!! I come up almost 50/50..we'll find out in the next couple weeks, but at 13w baby was at 160.
